Wireless N Router with Dual Band question
Hey, I might buy a dual band wireless n router. It has a 2.4ghz band and a 5ghz band (they run simultaneously) , so we could put the wireless g's on the 2.4ghz and the n's on the 5ghz band. Im planning to buy a wireless n adapter for maximum speed. Question is, do i need to buy a 5ghz wireless n adapter to use the 5ghz band? or can i just use a 2.4ghz adapter?
This is how wifi n works:
If all clients that are connected are n adapters then the access point operates in n mode. As soon as a g adapter connects the access point drops down to g mode for all adapters and stays in g mode until the g adapter(s) disconnect. I cannot operate in both g and n at the same time.

No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

Is that true for all wireless n routers? I thought some had the ability to communicate on the 2.4 and 5GHz simultaneously to two different machines, one at 2.4 g mode and one at 5 n mode.TonyT wrote:This is how wifi n works:

I do not recall which one. I'm just learning and it may have been advertising hype.

No it doesn't hold true for most of the dual bands, as dual radio units will allow full speed at each channel...put your N devices on one channel, and your legacy (B and G) clients on the other channel. The N devices will run full speed.coil_nine wrote:Is that true for all wireless n routers?
