Could this be my computer ??
Ok i have a 500mhz AMD. With 213 Mb RAM. And a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI. I play Unreal Tournament.
Now my question is that when i first bought my Video card i was getting good frames from 50 to 60. Now i cant even get frames past 20. My frames are like 16 now. I tried all differen't tweaks and nothing works. Can this be my computer ? im running Win98.

You said you use to get 50 now you get like 20. Is this with the same game?
If its with newer games its probably because new games are getting hardcore
and want more resources.

First thing that jumped out at me....213mb of RAM. That's an odd number. Could be a typo, but if your computer is really telling you it has 213mb of RAM...I'd start digging.
Yes some of the mobos out there suck up a meg or more of system RAM to substitute for basic onboard video, I see those i810 chipset that have a 64 megs stick report 63 megs. But I can't come up with a number that works out right for 213. RAM is just about always some mutliple of 8. To have that much RAM, you'd probably have some combination of 64 and 32 meg sticks, probably less sticks of a higher count.
So I'm thinking faulty RAM somewhere? I've even seen a virus that hosed your RAM count.

OK, I noticed at the bottom of the first page that you are using a memory optimizer. there are a few things you need to know about how they work.
RAM optimizers work by fooling the system into thinking you have more Physical RAM then you really do. They do this by translating Virtual Space on your HD into a quasi-Physical address that can be used the same way your RAM is. The problem this creates is that BECAUSE it uses your HD, it is saturating the PC bus with dataflow and hogging the bandwidth your Video could otherwise be using.
My Advice: Ditch the Optimizer You have 192 MB of RAM and if you are running just a game, you don't need it. NO Game written for the PC and released on the general market, 3D or otherwize, uses that much RAM. Period. They wouldn't be able to sell it. Not enough users would be able to buy it because of that requirement.
In a nutshell, don't run ANYTHING that isn't DIRECTLY RELATED to making the game function. If you need the RAM boost for other applications, then run it for them. It kills your game. It may not be the sole culprit, but it is defintely a part of the problem. Also, if you have your Video massively O/C'd, then you could be dealing with a GPU that has been fried over the long course of constant heat exposure, unless your case is VERY well ventilated (ie extra cooling fans installed to circulate the air).
The best way to check it is borrows a friend's system and swap the video cards in it for a day... if you have the same cards it is even better. Note the new Frame Rates and then swap back.
One more thing.... if you O/C your video, you void the warranty. Period. Warranty only holds if you leave the settings at the manufacturer's factory default settings. So be ready for that.

This problem started happening even before i used that memory Optimizer. So its not that that effecting my gamespy.
And 8D. Whats with the bad talk ? Most servers now Run CSHP. In the DOM servers theres not one server that has CSHP so i think you better think before you talk.
There is no reason at all you need to make these remarks. This forum is for people to ask questions and get help not people to talk ****..

8D. he ask a question. Why do you reply with a stupid remark like that ? Speedguide isin't a place to fight, When someone asks a question you don't reply with a stupid remark like you did on your other post. And i don't think Philip or brent or any of the Moderators would like those remarks. Its Simple. if someone asks a question you reply back and help them. If you don't know what the problem might be then don't post at all. Theres no reason to make remarks like that on this forum. Just thought you should know.

has any real gamer ever heard of the "rate" command.
rate is the amount of data, when connected to a game server, will attempt to handle at a given packet size. Typical rate is 10000 for lan or high speed, but the default rate is 3500.
You might say "well smartass, rate will affect your ping then!" well, not entirely true. If you're on a high speed connection, then your ping will not change. Only your FPS will change, as with a higher rate setting, you will be able to actually recieve more data fluidly. If you were to try /rate 10000 on 56k, you will be lagging to high heaven due to the fact your modem can't handle that much data.
I would definitly suggest finding a command similar to this in UT, and experimenting.
Also, (though probably not relating to your fps problem)..in games such as quake, quake3, ect. there is a "max_fps" command which can be tinkered with, it is also generally set low as a default and should be worth looking into.
good luck to you.

I had a similar problem to what u have with u'r FPS dropping that low. Did you start to use a firewall on u'r computer, namely Sygate? I switched from ZoneAlarm Pro to Sygate and my FPS went that low while playing online, but playing locally was fine. I uninstalled Sygate and it was fine again. Just a thought.
As to you 8D, and u'r inappropriate comments, it's pretty easy to put people down when they are asking a question. Here's something to think about, how many of us will readily help you now if u ever have a problem? You get what you put out.
