I like Asus as a brand, wanting one myself, but those linked models are below what I hold for specs.....namely in hard drive RPM, I'd go for 7,200rpm which gives quite a bit more performance over the old 5,400rpm.

The HP models you linked had dedicated graphics also, which helps performance in Vista/Win7.

Although I could beat the HP specs wise at a lower cost (closer to 1/2 that cost) with some Dell models.

The model I listed in Minirs thread, the Vostro 1520
http://www.dell.com/us/en/business/note ... 4&ref=lthp

I picked up a 1320 model for my wife....
A few friends of mine have purchased that 1520 model, which starts at under 600 bucks. What's nice...it comes with a 7,200rpm hard drive, 4 gigs of RAM, Core 2 Duo, Win7, and most models come with the Intel 5100 wifi..which is superior wireless to non Intel wireless NICs.

Click on the 1520 link..see that red model they're not offering at $679.00 here?

That model there was going for $549.00 2 weeks ago on a XMas deal. It's still a great deal for under 700 bucks. You can get an optional 3 year warranty with it.

Unfortunately on the Vostro models I only get few % off of the price, not enough to make it worth anything since I registered only tax free in my state and NY, my profits pretty much only come from the Latitude and upper Optiplex desktop models, as well as servers.
