Need Help Improving speed on my DSL(PPoE) using TCP OPTIMIZER or cable nut

Post by babolgam »

I just reformatted my unit and I'm having trouble with the TCP OPTIMIZER, last time I used it, it worked well enough for me to see the difference now it won't anymore and I don't know what went wrong or which is which.

Connection: DSL (PPoE)
OS: Windows XP SP3
ISP: Philippine Long Distance Telephone
The advertised speed is up to 2mbps which you can also find in this website: http://www.pldtdsl.com/ . I applied for Xcite plan. I hope someone can help me with this one. Kinda new here. :D

Additional info: I used the TCP OPTIMIZER using the optimal settings and I planned on using the CableNut software but unfortunately I don't have that much knowledge with the settings but I'm reading FAQs and visiting forums.

Before I try it. I'm just gonna ask. Will the cable nut settings overwrite those of the tcp optimizer? Or it's going to be fine doing both. Thank you so much, needed a reply badly.

Thank you so much Rollingstone, rep to you. Is it possible to reach maybe 1700-1800 kb/s?! That would be very nice. :D By the way my IP is dynamic, any chances that the tweak won't work when I reboot my modem? Again thank you so much, further speed help will be much appreciated. :thumb:

Edit: After I saw this tool on the website http://www.j79zlr.com/cablenutXP2k.php, I was wondering if I could just change the RWIN a little bit higher in the cable nut settings, is there a need also to change those other values or just retain those values that you gave earlier and just change the RWIN value?! I need more research on it, I'll read more though. Again thanks.

a) logon to your routers interface (if u have one) and increase your MTU to 1492 pppoe or 1500 pppoa. Then do an analyzer to see if Your MTU has increased.

b) Double the RWIN value that rolling recomended 4 u and test

I've log on to my modem and sorry to tell you but I can't find the MTU settings. Where is it usually under? I'm using a modem.

PS:The encapsulation method used is RFC 1483, Multiplex LLC, and the mode is bridge.

Sir rollingstone, as what I've seen from your instructions on cable nut settings, I was just wondering if those other settings have more zeros on their value, I compared it with mccoffee's post and some values you entered are almost the same with his except for more zeros. Just wondering. :D

Zyxel P600 series
This modem is usually used for ADSL connection (MTU 1492 or 1480) ! Not for PLDT (cable connection with MTU 1500) !

Try relocating your modem far away from electrical devices and straighing coiled cables (if any) then post new tracert yahoo.com

Sir I am a PLDT subscriber and this is what they gave me when I subscribe to them, I don't know the reason why they gave me this one. I am a subscriber of PLDT for maybe 4-6 years. Anyways here's my tracert to yahoo. Again thank you sir.

I've relocated my Modem, far away from any devices. No coiled up wires either.

Weird thing happened to my internet, my download speed now goes to 6mb/s. I don't know if there is something wrong with the isp or something change. I am only paying for a speed of up to 2mb/s. Here's the new speedtest.

Also It went up after I installed the hotspotshield program, I used that to access sites that are blocking Philippine users to access it.

Now I'm confused, I went to see my modem's settings and it was set to bridge mode. I was thinking my connection is a PPoE since I need to log on in windows to access the internet. Sorry kinda confused right now.

The ISP told me that they are having some problems, he said that it's a burst that's why i'm getting 6k+ speeds.

PS: I installed RASPPoE, do I need to change my cable nut and TCP values again since my MTU is now 1492. Or I will just retain the values given by rollingstone and just change the MTU and MSS. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks

yes u have........ move the optimezers slider at your advertised speed set the new MTU (1492) and u will see that the rwin will change. those will be your correct settings cause rwin must be multiplied by your mss=mtu-40, or wait 4 rolling to paste your settings. As for your differential speed, when and if your isp solve the issues and degrade the traffic congestion, u'll be ok

with 25k i still get the same output, 6kbps which is not right for connection but as i've said they are having some problems so going to wait for a while. I'll try to use the 511104. My only problem is that some sites are not loading but then when I refresh it again it will load. It's not the usual "type then there it is" anymore. I don't know what affects it though, any suggestions? I'm using the cable nut cuz some of the values are not changed if I use the TCP OPT.

I'd use 127776 for 2 Mbps line with MTU 1492 in Asia !
My only problem is that some sites are not loading but then when I refresh it again it will load.
Try these settings with TCP OPtimizer :

Max Connections per Server - 8
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 8
ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 0

Still having the same problems, and my youtube streaming now sux. I don't know if my isp is the problem or not which I think it is. :rotfl:

I've set my RWIN to 127776 from 51k and it seemed slower(maybe), can't tell much difference.

@sir rollingstone: I'm now using the RASPPoE, maybe it's the culprit for my webpage loading and youtube streaming problem?!

Do a test at the test server in your country of http://www.speedtest.net and post your results.

Here it is sir:

So far the results have been amazing and I've been having amazing download speeds, but as what the customer support of our ISP said that there's a problem, then I think these results wouldn't last long. I'll just post my download speed when everything changes back to normal.

Ok here I am again, been waiting for my connection to be normal again. My problem now is that my streaming and download speeds are very slow compared to the non-tweaked system. What setting should I change?

Here's my new speedtest.
