What Works with Kaspersky AV?

Post by Lurch »

Can anyone please tell me what to run with KAV 2008? I tried to update to their new AV but couldn't get it to update so I went back to the 2008 CD version and reinstalled it.

Can/should I run Spybot and Adaware with KAV?

Is Malwarebytes a free program?

Spybot is compatible with any antivirus program, the extra add-on.."tea-timer", sometimes causes problems, but the rest of the program, I've never had any incompatibility issues.

I stopped using Adaware a while ago, just didn't find it very strong compared to some other malware removal apps I use.

MalwareBytes has a free version and a pro version.

You've got some other type of issue if you can't get Kaspersky 2009 to update, you need to look further into that rather than downgrading to an older version. Companies, especially security companies, release new versions to keep up with the latest types of threats and the best way to protect you.

Hi When I installed the 2009 version of Kaspersky AV, it told me Spybot was not compatible with it and had to be removed before I could install it.

Thanks for replying. :)

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

I went to Kaspersky's forum and asked them what to do and they told me to get GSI [getsysteminfo] and run it, which I did, then I uploaded the GSI file to their site, which told me I had 3 issues that needed to be fixed before I could install KAV 2009.

1) I had 2 notices that my Intel 10/100 VE Network adapter has updates that need to be install. I have only one adapter, so I don't know why I got 2 notices for it.

2) It told me to un-install Spywareblaster, which I did

Even after getting the updated driver and installing it, rebooting, and re-running the GSI, it still told me I needed to update the Intel driver.

I got tired of playing around with it and went back to the KAV 2008 version.

I was thinking of going back to Avira. I just don't feel like spending hours screwing around with my PC any more. :)

I know how you feel Joe. I was a Kaspersky reseller for years and switched to Avira because of the types of odd problems like you are having. I would switch back to Avira, if you do switch I can tell you that PCTools Firewall works fine with it and is a very good firewall. Along with that you can use Windows Defender, SpyBot, SpywareBlaster and SUPERAntiSpyware.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I will look into these programs and probably go for them.
Glad to hear about these programs!

I installed Online Armor free firewall again a few days ago. I had used Windows Firewall for the last few months or so with no noticeable problem.
The OA firewall pops up every time I open or close a program. I hate it when they do that. :nope: ;)

I got KAV 2008 free after a rebate. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it. I presumed it would be better than AV freeware. Live & learn.
