My daughter loves her song as most female teens do. I just am not sure how I feel about this...

Vid isn't playing anymore....

I'm guessing it's the song "I kissed a girl and I liked it?" I hear that song on the radio all the time now..and I have to wonder about the influence in pre-teen/teen girls these days.

Fixed the video...

I was wondering the same thing? I guess I am turning into my parents. I remember my parents raising an eyebrow when songs like "In The Bush" came out when I was young.

Yup...tis the song. We think alike! :D

I remember when I was in junior high school or maybe early high school...going somewhere with my parents one morning...that Duran Duran song came on the radio...Hungry Like the Wolf. The part where the girl is moaning out loud in pleasure....I remember my mom turning the radio off with some comment about it. :rotfl:

Face it guys, the world is not the same as it once was. It's not just us getting older and thinking like parents, some of this stuff was taboo not all that long ago and now, homosexuality is somehow accepted. :(

Just like Ozzy cant make your kids commit suicide, I think this logic applies as well. If the tendency is there, the teen will try it, regardless of a music video or song.

I am not worried about that. I am worried about my mixed feelings. She is hot, but I don't like the message. Thus the conundrum.

It's amazing the number of piss-poor parents on here who are afraid to discuss things with their kids, and would rather just keep them ignorant...

Frankly, that video looks totally harmless to me except for the part where she wakes up with her boyfriend in the bed with her.

Being in bed with your boyfriend before the age of consent should not be a given. That's the only problem I see.

By the way, talking to your teenager isn't as important as getting your teenager to talk to you candidly and within thier comfort zone.

But, those are just some thoughts. Every new situation has to be faced creatively and positively when raising a teen.

If you are worried about having a homosexual daughter. Than it is my opinion that you educate yourself on the subject. A good source would be to talk to a mature lesbian as they have both the growing up as a homosexual experience and the growing up as a female experience. Then when she is old enough that the sex talk is needed don't be afraid to engage the subject. Talking is not gonna turn her gay. Neither are T V shows or songs on the radio that is just a bunch of nonsense from people who don't know the first thing about homosexuality. But the best thing in my opinion you could do for her is to be open, honest and properly informed.

I like the bass line okay, vocals are WAAAAAY post processed. As to the song? Some little pop diva did a song back in the 90s titles "I Kissed a Girl", it was more poppy and "fun" than this one.

Yeah this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jill_Sobule

She had Fabio in the vid, it was a total bubblegum sorta thing.

There's quite a few who vocalize their hatred of homosexuality, and are unwilling to have any sort of rational discussion about it. Instead, they just want to hide the act away, or make it illegal again.

Its a sign of the times and a sad one to me. There have always been songs about sex and some of its taboo stuff, but it seems more common now that artists just blurt the stuff out rather than coming up with some witty way to imply it, or in a style more imaginative in some way.

Is that not ironic somewhat how now an open aversion towards homosexuality is becoming taboo itself. I think it's great that homosexuals are becoming more accepted. It shows that the human race can better itself and free itself from past nonsense. But really I don't care if someone dislikes homosexuality; as long as I don't have to see it.

I don't think homosexuality is the issue at all here at all. To me..it's about sex and sexual experimentation being pushed on kids earlier and earlier, when bubblegum pop radio plays this stuff all the time for kids...it's advertising it, saying it's OK.

Well my post was not exactly directed at you. That was part of the reason I quoted Blebs who did seems unjustly concerned with the homosexual content. I also find it hard to believe that this song got chosen to stand out from the rest solely off it's sexual content. I mean really Madonna put out some more erotic stuff than this. I have seen harder sexual content in Days of Our Lives when I was a kid. TnT and USA when I was a child carried harder stuff than this. Songs about sex are nothing new and I see no reason why this one should be singled out from the rest. The title of the thread is "sign of things to come" that really does not make allot of sense from your view point YeOldeStonecat. As the evil sexual content of this song which somehow I don't see is a result of things that have past. To be honest I believe this song is harmless and the lot of you are overreacting. I mean you did say you heard it on the radio. What words are so terrible in this song? Kiss? Or is it the combine words "kissed a girl" I mean the whole song itself is only about a kiss and nothing more. Than you want me to believe that it gets this type of attention because of it's sexual content and not it's homosexual content. It's sexual content is mild if the song stands out then it is from it's homosexual content.

“it's about sex and sexual experimentation being pushed on kids earlier and earlier, when bubblegum pop radio plays this stuff all the time for kids...it's advertising it, saying it's OK.”

To say that it pushes kids to have sex is just stupid. Hormonal changes encourage youths to have sex not songs. If your kids wants to have sex before puberty than there is something else going on besides songs. Also If you raised a child that can be so easily manipulated by a song than you failed as a parent and that is your fault.

The hormones are there...yes. And those of us who are older now...were once young...we still remember the times back then. But....look at the trend over the past several decades. Trends of kids sexual activities...at earlier and earlier ages. IMO part of it is due to the 24x7 exposure to this stuff.

Those of us in our 40's 'n 50's....back in elementary school...the most contact was playing Doctor..a bit of show 'n tell.

Junior high school....got to fool around a bit. Usually didn't lose virginity until high school

These days..kids doing it in late elementary school, activities common in junior high school, pregancies in junior high school, pregnant drop outs in high school. "Friends with perks" becoming commonplace in teens these days, getting quick hummers in the stairwells of schools.

IMO kids are losing their innocence at much younger ages these days. IMO exposure to songs and videos that encourage it...only makes it that much easier for them to cross that border...sort of like society telling them it's OK.

Parents to blame? We can only do so much. With both parents often working..kids alone at school, no other parents around the neighborhood to watch the kids. Not that kids are outside playing much these days...always indoors riding the TV or 'puter. Which puts them back in front of exposure to whatever the trends are.

The subject of homosexuality isn't the issue for me. Pre-teens and teens are generally too young to be decided yet, IMO a song like this doesn't influence that. It's just..the message of pushing the envelope sexually is what rubs be wrong.

One single song isn't to blame....but IMO...just another bit that may rub away another layer of the kids innocence.

Similar to say..watching Family Guy. I crack up watching that cartoon, Jake watches it often. But when the 5yo daughter is in the room..some of those episodes I don't want her exposed to...I'm not fond of the idea of her hearing some things on that show and repeating them out loud...forming a habit of saying or doing things..or adding the wrong stuff to her vocabulary at that early of an age.

24x7 exposure? Hummers in the stairwells? Are you watching Fox news? I did a little digging and according to this pdf, sexually activity in grades 9 - 12 has gone down over 1993 to 2003. With the 2003 66% being in the 12th grade. Also according to this pdf teen pregnancy is dropping also. Really I would guess 17 - 18 being the age teens are most sexuality active. And this is gonna throw the readings for the rest of the ages. I think 18 is an old enough age for sex and really the statistical data should have not factored in 17 and 18 to get a better reading.

http://www.kff.org/youthhivstds/upload/ ... -Sheet.pdf

But in my youth we endured Madonna, Michael Jackson and the Baby Got Back song and for the most part I think we turned out well. I don't recall a bunch of sexual delinquents running wild in the schools over “My anaconda don't want none Unless you've got buns, hun " It's biological, that is the driving source and has been since before humans.

.always indoors riding the TV or 'puter. Which puts them back in front of exposure to whatever the trends are.

I would consider that the parents responsibility. They provide the TV and computer with internet. T V channels can be block and computers do not need net to function. As a child I enjoyed the computer very much without internet.

some of those episodes I don't want her exposed to.

Change the channel.
