Welcome to SpeedGuide! :)

I believe that most of us build our own computers due the not liking the proprietory components and drivers put in mass produced computers...

That said, how about a bit more info?
Price, options, what are your needs and such, would help us a bit...

I looked around and found this:

On the system as a whole:

The cpu, Intel® Core™2 E8200 , some reviews and info:

The video card, nVidia GeForce 8800 GT 512MB2:

Operating System is Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium... For now, I am sticking with XP, however, that is just IMHO...

I don't have a clue which hard drive, optical drive, how much or what type of memory, or which sound card you have chosen... Need some more info...

WOW, granted I didn't have time to search very much, the specs you state are different than the ones Dell shows. Quad core...
Do you have a link to the options on the Dell site?

Are you going to mainly be gaming?

Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium 2 x 500GB* SATA 3.0Gb/s with NCQ 4GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM 2. Dell™ E248WFP 24" Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
Dual 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800G 16X Max DVD+/-RW Combination Drive with double layer write capability this is what im looking at does this sound alright. dell xps 630 the price is $2,999 australian
The cpu seems to be a good one...

As previously stated, personally I don't care for Vista yet. I have it on 1 machine and hate it so I really don't use it, and I am not sure, maybe someone will chime in on whether it can fully utilize the 4 GB of RAM... (On XP, you must use the 64 bit version, unless things have changed that I am not aware of. Been in the hospital a lot the last year and half...) And speaking of the RAM, that may not be the fastest your machine will allow, again, not 100% positive, although that machine should still be a monster... ;)

The monitor is good, lots of real estate and the dual VGA cards should make your son happy with his gaming. Not the very best components, however, very good.
I am not sure how $3K converts to US$, however, it seems like a good rig...

Any one else want to give this gent an opinion?

No problem, stick around the site, make some friends and perhaps catch a pointer or 2. :)
On their US site, they still have an option for XP...
Good luck!
