When they call the roll in the Senate, the Senators do not know whether to answer "Present" or "Not guilty."

Something similar happened here, tho not anywhere near as serious, a couple of weeks ago. Some construction workers, while getting ready for some new underground installation of some sort, pipelines, I believe it was....sliced through sbc's, now at&t's main cable and crippled this area. Services were out for a couple of days, while repairs were being made. Did not effect me personally, as I cannot get that service in this area..however..the saddest part of all is when 3 seperate friends of mine called their isp services, to see if there was a problem....and told NO!! No outages!! Grrrrrr!!!

Exactly Chevyman!! Tell the dang truth!! Chit happens, ya know, and THAT at least is acceptable, instead of misleading your customers, having them running around frantically, trying to figure out what in the world is wrong, and two of those friends computers, at least, I keep up..so guess who got two frantic calls after getting the word that everything was ok! Jerks!!
Not the friends!!...the companies!! lol! Takes a bit of adjusting for me to get out and around to get to them right now as well....double irk! I did learn from that one however...after discovering there was not a blessed thing I could do...ummmm....check your tv!
On me!

The interesting part of this, and a lot of other outages, is that the original design principles of the Internet included redundancy so that if Cleveland were to disappear nto radiactive dust, the net would stay up.
In the present implementation, there is no/not enough redundancy to accomodate even a single fiber cut in most instances.

you got this right.. TW is taking over Adelphia and a while back I had the worse pings and high latency I've ever had with Cable.. they couldn't get a story straight on what the problem was or a time of repair.. it was very lame! They could have took that part down and routed us through another area but noooo.. I had 4 weeks of crappy internet at which I thought dialup was better!
