My Ocala motorcycle trip(aka how to blow 2k and still have fun)

Post by brembo »

Allright! I remembered that my printer can read CF cards, so I was able to to d/l them and here they are:
Being responsible young men and changing the oil before the 9 hour drive.
Image
Me, after the first day riding. I got the nickname Dirty Sanchez due to my beard trapping dirt.
Image
Dave holding THE map. Since I kinda make maps for a living I was able to rip coordinates and we made a game of finding cool stuff. Life is interesting when you are trying to read GPS while going 35 mph down a whooped out trail with branches smacking at your face. Geezus was it fun.
Image
Then we found this gem. A massive sand pit. This day was before the rain, so it was a big open area full of sugar sand. We tore around in it for a solid hour. No paddle tires so the name of the game was pinned throttle and carve. My bike got hot enough to boil the gas, it was distressing to see gas bubbling out of the vent tube.Image
The big sand pit wore us out. I was hobbling around(sprained the **** out of my ankle helping the KTM rider Chris with framing up his basement, slipped on some hay) taking bizarre pics, this one turned out well I thought.Image
This is Chris being a child in front of the camera. Shortly after this shot the bike rebeled and had it's revenge. It slapped his knee with the bars rather hard and peed gas on the sand. Austrian bikes are so touchy.Image
This is Chris again, this time he attempted to commune with the scrub oaks. Broke a few on his way down. I made him sit there till I got a halfway decent picture. I think what caused his spill was what some call "object fixation". He said that he knew he was going to hit the tress, but his body locked up on him and he was just along for the ride. Image
Dave looking kinda miffed at the ugly weather that cut out thursday ride short. I was worried that a quad would slow us down alot, but he could ride the snot out of the 450R. Watching him go over whoops made MY ass hurt. He could ride a wheelie on it for as long as he liked. I finally got him on my bike and now he wants a MX bike, I love corrupting the innocent.Image
Don't play with knives folks. I got this nasty gash trying to remove the GPS. Tip slipped off the zip tie and right into my pinkie. I left a nice pool of blood in the bed of the truck.Image

Our cabin. We all three cleaned out air filters in the sink, smelled of oil and dirt in there till we left. OOPS. 80 a night, tv and a warm shower. The campgroup had two pools and a massive hot-tub. The hot-tub was a godsend, made the tired and sore muscles ready for another day.Image

Chris next to a little lake(duh), he wanted this pic to help convince his wife that she would see pretty things if she took up riding with us. Right after this pic Chris almost ran over a bear and I hit a tree going...uh...quickly and destroyed my camera. Chris has more pics but nothing from the trails, his is a fancy 8mp uber camera that would not survive an offroad trip.Image

So, I had a riot. I went thru a fifth of Kettle One during the nights and had lots of fun spooking the old folks. Ate lots of good food and trail dirt too. I'd hop in a truck right now and ride for another 3 days without hesitation.

My god you're ugly. :D
Is that a squirrel humping your chin?

That said, looks like a lot of fun  (the riding that is, not the humping).

Our cabin was in Salt Springs, Delancy area. I played a little hide and seek with the local constables too, I was being naughty and riding on state roads. Not many cars this side of WRC that'll catch a motorcross motorcycle on dirt tho.
