That does seem to be the concern. If so. it will be a huge step backwards for Women.Prey521 wrote:Do you think that he will be the final swing vote that will overturn Roe v. Wade?

[sarcasm] I hope so! And then we'll enjoy democratic dominance of the Congress and Presidency for at least the next 40 years or so! As the kids say... w00t!

In other words, no. The republicans have no intention of actually overturning Roe V Wade. They just want to have the same rhetorical fight around the time of elections over and over so they can fire up their base who will get out their checkbooks. If they do overturn Roe v Wade, how many of the holler-roller base are going to cut them a check to "fight the fight" they've already won? Not many.
And it's not like they haven't had the chance. They have had the WH and the Congress for 6 years now. And they've been UNable to craft ANY restriction on abortion that passes Constitutional muster?
Yeah right.
It's NOT a coincidence the President signed into law a federal bill that had been ruled UNconstitutional when it was enacted as a state law. There was no provision for the health of the mother. This federal law was then immediately blocked by a federal court before it left the signing desk. They're not so stupid that they didn't know that this was going to happen. They planned for it by SPECIFICALLY leaving in the part that the SCOTUS found unconstitutional the first time. The ONLY way that decision makes sense is if they INTENDED for it to be suspended and never enforced. So either they are so stupid you wouldn't trust them to park your car, OR they are slicker than all the oil in Texas.
Consider this though: It let them claim to be doing something but allowed them to blame "Activist Judges!" (the latest bad guy for them to fingerpoint at) for doing EXACTLY what they knew they would do. Namely, not allow women to die. And at the end of the day, despite all the smoke and thunder and flashy effects... despite having complete control of the congress and the WH and a conservative leaning SCOTUS.. in spite of ALL of that... Roe v Wade is STILL the law of the land. That simply cannot be the case unless they intend for it to be the case.
Simply put, Roe v Wade is likely to remain the law so as long as the Republicans or Democrats are in power. For different reasons, yes. But it's not going anywhere in our lifetimes. In fact, if you think the republicans WILL EVER actiually do anything about it you've been completely had. The republican party is about pork barrel and politics as usual and staying in power. A 400Bn dollar deficit is all the proof you need of that.

You know, although I find it morally wrong (abortion that is) I find it awfully strange that the biggest pro abortion crowd seems to be composed of men. Weird. As far as an overturn.... I dunno if it will happen. I would be infavor of some middle ground like no 3rd term abortions unless the mothers life is in danger and anyone seeking their second abortion can have it as long as they undergo having thier tubes tied, cause they are not worth the title of mother.
Too many women use abortion as birth control, imo. But again I am a man, so unless it was my girlfriend or wife where the life in her stomach was 1/2 from me..... my opinion really doesn't matter.

I know you are, but what am I?

I wouldn't quite say pro-abortion ...rather than it's none of my ****ing business what a woman, or anybody else, does with their body.

I do agree with Bouncer that I don't think the powerbase of the neo cons, really want it changed.
I do however disagee that it will come up before the Supreme Court. It's only a matter of time.
I wonder about Alito, through. After several days of listening to the hearings on NPR, I'm coming away with the feeling that he's not as right wing as the neo con powerbase thinks.
Roberts is one thing. I think he'd jump at the chance for a reversal of Roe vs Wade.. as well as Scalia and his monkey...
Then again, I could be very wrong about Alito...

The only reason men support a "woman's right to choose" is so in case they get a chick pregnant, they can point to the fact that they were vocally pro-choice from the beginning and would never do anything to prevent the woman from getting an abortion...all while dabbing their own, guiltless brow. Otherwise, it makes no sense for a man to give a ****.
