adsl and servers

new to this so bear with me. decided to give running a server a chance tonite. used G6 FTP Server v2.0 (RC1). Anyways gotter going and had trouble with uploads. played a little more and asked for someones help by uploading to me. they came back and said that it actually uploaded faster than it downloaded! kinda funny eh? i have adsl PPPoA, 1.5mb down and 256kb up. anyone familar with this server? the only setting i see that mite make a difference is under advanced options...the recieve buffer. any help appreciated.
