Try The Optimizer

Im doing pretty good with Cablenut but thought I would give the optimizer a try. Any setting suggestions?

TCP options string = 020405b40103030101010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 128480
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 1 bits (scale factor of 2)
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 5139.2 kbps (642.4 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2055.68 kbps (256.96 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 53 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

Should I download the Optimizer and try any settings in it or just use the cablenut settings as I have them? Should I use both the Optimzer and cablenut or just one and if so, which one? Right now Im just using cablenut.

you only really need on program to tweak with what you u is your prefrence i hate question. Like this since i'm at both sites so it's hard for me to say one way ,or another do what works best for you.

Thanks mccoffee. I understand that you prefer cablenut. I wanted to give the optimzer and try and compare the 2. If cablenut works better I will stay with it and visa versa. I would like the settings to try in the optimzer if you know them. Thanks again.

Start with "Optimal" to begin with, only takes a click!

Thanks guys. I tried the optimal settings in the optimizer then tried to tweak them a little myself. I still get faster download speeds plus my pages load faster with cablenut. Never hurts to try things.

I have a question about Optimzer.

The Tips Thread recommends:

For XP & 2K

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\ServiceProvider

For 98, 98SE & ME

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP\ServiceProvider

On the right for ALL OS's change these entries: (ALL values are HEXIDECIMAL)

DnsPriority = 1
HostsPriority = 1
LocalPriority = 1
NetbtPriority = 1

So how come everytime I run Optimizer, it wants to set them to 5,6,7,8?

Either set of numbers would work in theory the lower the number the better the response also the eailer version of the optimizer didn't inculde that tweak now it does either or values wouldn't help or hut.
