Web Page loading speed

Post by dlt6109 »

I do not want to sound like a idiot but... When they advertise one download speed against another is this referring to actual file downloads only.In other words is having a 3ooompbs compared to a 1500mpbs mean that the actual web pages will load twice as fast ?

There are more things that can effect webpage loading speed than I care to list, (a few are windows settings, firewalls, wireless router & Encryption level). However, having a faster connection should definitely speed up browsing. To get the best performance out of your system and ISP connection, use Cablenut, TCP Optimizer and visit here to stop Windows services you don't need that will slow your Operating System down:
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
If that site is down, (as it has been lately) goto:

Another good site to visit is tweakxp.com to get your XP system, (I'm assuming that you're using XP, although the site has forums for other OS's) running better. You can test your downloading speed at testmy.net and I know there is a site that will test your Webpage loading speed, but I don't remember it, sorry. I hope this helps some. Good Luck!

3000kbps VS 1500kbps Doesnt mean web browsing will feel twice as fast, but as Steelers said it should be faster.

PS: I'm not sure what your geek level is, :D but to keep your browsing speed fast, make sure you use an antivirus program along with spyware blocking/cleaning programs. There are many, but a popular combination, (which I use) is SpywareBlaster, Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D. Those programs should get and keep your system clean and if you still have problems try HijackThis. Make sure you visit a forum that will analyze your log before you delete anything with HijackThis! I know that tweakxp.com and zonelabs.org both have forums with experts to do this. Lastly, use some programs to keep Windows and the registry clean. I use CCleaner (this program will clean a lot of junk out of Windows and will help with your browsing speed), MRU-Blaster and a cleaner in Norton's Systemworks. CCleaner also has a feature to clean your registry of leftover junk and in addition, I also use RegScrubXP to clean the registry. With the registry cleaners, make sure you know what you're cleaning before doing so! I listed some great programs, but there are many more that do the same things. It's a matter of preferance.

You may already know all of this, but if not, it should keep your system running smooth and fast. Trojans, viruses, spyware and hijackers can slow your system and browsing down, so keep it clean.
