I hate people who disrespect the military..

Post by Meggie »

today myself, my first sergeant and our readiness nco went to a park where we are trying to plan a 'family day' for our soldiers. We got to the gate and we asked very politly to the person at the gate that we were interested in just looking around, and we asked if she had any information on rentals or permits for areas of the park. She said "im not going to be a part of something for you guys to come in here and recruit to make more kids die" When we tried to explain to her that it wasnt a recruiting event she basically shushed us, told us to go just go and that she didnt want to hear anything else about it, and walked away...

we ended up taking a wrong turn that lead us out of the park so we had to go back through, next time she saw us she said in a really snotty attitude "what you guys didnt see enough the first time?" so we went through again.. went we left we left out that way and just started shaking her head when she saw us leave...

My question is this... if i wanted to how would i go about forming a complaint against her.. i mean, she denied us information simply because we are in the military.

City park? Call the mayor's office.

County park? Get ahold of a county commissioner.

State Park? Dunno about your state but you'd need to look under government listings..

National Park? Same...

What she did was wrong on several counts. She should be fired or if she's a volunteer, she should be barred. End of story.

You really want to get her goat? Call a TV or radio station.

By the way.....Thank you for serving. :)

Amen!! People with that type of mentality would absolutely be totally lost if they themselves ever needed to face a conquest themselves....guess who would be the first they would either call upon or blame!

Yes pass that on to the local News Paper. They love stories like that. No need of her being rude or denying services because you are in the military. I would have politely reminded her she has the freedom to voice her opinions because of you and all who served.

And yes thank you for serving. :thumb:

You can also take the issue to the local American Legion Post. They are the biggest vetrans organization and back vertrans causes. If you brought that to our Post we would have a few hundred members showing up to the next town council meeting. It wouldn't be taken lightly in our town.

What park? Is it operated by the city or county? And, yes, you sure as hell can file a complaint!

Try this. Find out when that lady is stationed at that gate and get three soldiers in civies to do exactly what you did but not mention the military. If they are asked about it, ask her what difference that makes?

Make the plans for the picnic and make sure you get yerself a really big banner for the day displaying who you are. LOL What that lady did is discrimination and I am sure the State Gov. does not support it.

By the way, what she did was not against the military, in her mind, it was against the war in Iraq, prolly. And by the way, she is the exception, (albeit, there are many these days) not the rule, so don't forget that.

Another great source of support and information would be your local VFW Post..they rather frown on these types of activities as well. :p Go get em!

If the government is saying its ok for a Pharmacist to deny a person The Birth Control pill based on their morals, then how can they say something about that woman. This whole personal morals in the workplace thing is gonna be a problem.

There is a fundamental difference between a private employee following their own moral code and a state employee trying to do the same. At worst, the private employee drives business elsewhere. That park, and the right to use it, belongs equally to all of us. And that is what is being denied by an employee of the state.

Meggie I would *definately* pursue this through the local parks commission and if necessary through the city/town/county council. The effort to get access is important for any other group this person might decide on their own isn't allowed access or information.

Meggie,

For that one person there were probably 20 people in the park who would be proud to shake your hand.

Dont let one disrespectful person get you down. Most of America sees people in the military like heros. For every one disrespectful person I've seen there have been 25 who wanted to shake my hand. If I go to a restraunt in uniform my tab is always picked up. Everywhere I walk I am thanked.

Being able to rise above these situations and people like that is exactly what separates you from everyone else, which is exactly what makes you better.

She hasn't said yet if its one of those private picnic grounds or not. I was under the impression that it would be private since a Federal employee would doubtfully act like that.

definatley follow thru meg!

It's not excusable behavior. Even if the lady lost her son in war at the minimum her bahavior is understandable. It's also and most likely that she is just an ignoramus biotch. SHe could have a whole bag of sh1t ( racism obesity, mullet hateing redneckism, etc....) that she denies others their rights. Dont let her continue this crap.

formal complaint :rtfm:

I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous

sometimes you have to think outside the box to get inside the box ;).

Meggie I am so sorry you had to deal with that. I really think people forget, its the soldiers that scarfice everything for us, and that the descisions of war are not that of the soldier. I can understand being against war but I cant understand being rude to our militarty. I hope you turn her in...

What made her presume that you were to be there as part of a recruitment effort?
I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.

Sounds like the town may run the park. I would contact the town hall to find out who to talk to regarding the situation.
