Tweaking help and question

Post by iron2000 »

I usually use my cable connection for:
-Online gaming
-Downloading/Bittorent
-Surfing

Currently using the Cablenut 1500/128 settings.
Is there any tweaks to better optimize the connection for the way I use it?

My 1500/128 cable connection is shared via a Netgear WGR614 router with 2 other PCs. Must I tweak all 3 PCs for optimum Internet performance?

Location: Singapore
ISP: Starhub
Advertised Speed: 1500/128
OS: Windows XP Home

SG TCP/IP Analyser Results:
TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 192512
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits (scale factor of 4)
Unscaled Receive Window = 48128

For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 7700.48 kbps (962.56 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 3080.192 kbps (385.024 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = OFF
Time to live left = 51 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 01011100

Precedence (priority) = 100 (flash override)
Delay = 1 (low delay)
Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
Reliability = 0 (normal reliability)
Cost = 1 (low cost)

So I should apply the cablenut setting to all 3 PCs?
