VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THE FOLLOWING
1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.
2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.
3. ALWAYS connect your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer and set your duplex mode to "auto". If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware. DO NOT CONNECT YOUR MODEM VIA USB!!
4. Clear your temporary internet files.
5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.
6. Download, update and scan with SpyBot S&D EXACTLY as I explain HERE & Ad-Aware EXACTLY as I explain HERE to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster to stay spyware FREE. YOU MUST USE BOTH AD AWARE & SPYBOT TO ENSURE YOU ARE SPYWARE FREE SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES.
7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in my Help & Tips link.
8. If you have Zone Alarm as a firewall uninstall it and search your pc for the left over files.
9. Install Sygate Firewall they have a FREE and Pro version.
10. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one IMMEDIATELY, I recommend using AVG 6.0 it is an excellent FREE AV app. Make sure you set it up EXACTLY as I explain HERE.
11. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates.

ok after doing the above I have:
2004-08-13 23:24:16 EST: 436 / 241
Your download speed : 446825 bps, or 436 kbps.
A 54.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 247096 bps, or 241 kbps.
for some reson I used to download thingsa a lot faster with my 1.5meg and 2 meg connection than my 3meg connection!
my transfer rates suck especially for downloading movie clips of our site.
did i get a downgrade?
when we had the 1.5meg we used to almost be in the top end of the scale in the speakeasy test.
doing the aol speed test per your sig I am getting a 4kb/sec transfer rate...when we had 1.5 meg we were at 145kb/sec rate! and the bar went up fast.
on the 1.5meg/128 i used to average 1232/124.
2 meg was 1879/242 on average....

Trust me, I did in the middle of lastnight!
everything was fine up to when we got the 3meg upgrade. 1.5meg was fine then the 2meg upgrade was fine.
Now we got this 3meg upgrade(downgrade to 512k?) and everything I download takes 30 minutes to 1hr!
ahhh... service tech will be sent out tuesday to check the lines in the building.
