Oh man... :( Crappy feeling, just went through that this past Sept...prior place I worked at closed it's doors. The rumors were running all summer long.

Is it the place you work at closing it's doors?

i wish it was closing up...well the rumor is that ive missed one of the little details of their "new" attendance policy and after 7 years of service...im done, no saving throw just gone, 7 years of my life wasted....but im not bitter

im just frickin pissed!!! :D
i drove a clamp truck for Whirlpool Corp. unloading the microwave trailers that came in for distribution...well, that was just this past year ive done many jobs there, from assembly, fabrication, finish,

probably is my fault though...theres an unwritten rule that we go by and at the time i wasnt thinking straight...and i forgot to CYA...
cover your a$$
or mine rather
thnx guys :)

if we miss/take off a half day we are charged "partials" we are only allowed 4 and if you get more than 4 you get a corrective action...i already had 2 corrective actions because of a new (last years revision that i missunderstood<1st mess up) process of the attendance points system (theyve been changing it every year for the past 5 years) wow this might get long and i dont wanna sound like im whining...i left work Monday night because of tooth thats been bothering me...i checked everything(or so i thought) to make sure i was able to do this, everything looked in order, so i left....signed up for vacation the next day so i could go to the dentist and now i have been getting phone calls telling me all these rumors...so i figure im done...oh well...i was lookin for a job when i found that one....

oh yeah i forgot...we only get 3 correctives and your gone

they give us a "no fault" points system but punish us if we have to use it...you miss so many days, you get a corrective, you miss so many more days you get another one...
and no doctors notes no"excused" absences if you miss you miss they dont care

and i hope im not sounding whiny, but its just that ive invested more than just time there and im a little pissed that they would term me for something so trivial...im a good employee, i do what im told and go on its my job...ramble ramble ramble...sorry

May be a good time to talk to a higher up about it ?

Sometimes some simple explainations from YOU are better than them looking at a piece of paper.

Just my .02.

Good luck, buddy.

lol sounds good but ppl there just dont care...they would rather train someone new, put up with thier screwups, and damaged merchandise, than to put a little effort into keeping someone who has skills and what not...but i will try im not just going to give without a fight ...thnx
and thanks for letting me vent :)

Are you sure ?

Most managers would rather give a break (once) than have to train someone else. That would require him to do more work. I'm sure he doesn't want that.

Than again, maybe he does like to train.

Who knows. If they are going to do it, it wouldn't hurt.

Economic = money

training = expensive

expensive = not good

not good = job for bastid

LOL...

Although, I guess if you're not showing up for work, they aren't making any money, eh ?

Oh well. I just post here. ;)

It really depends though on what exactly he was doing. From what he was talking about sounds like he was doing alot of manual labor. No offense to him but how long does it take to teach sombody how to off load a truck, or screw in 3 screws someplace. Not very long. I'm sure any costs of hiring/training a new person would be more than offset by the savings in benefits and salary/wages.

everything is done by the book no exceptions...thats how Whirlpool works, ive watched alot of great employees go out the doors and never come back because they had to deal with real life, single moms/dads, ppl that deserved a decent job worse than me...this is the first place ive ever worked that was that cold, but this is a huge corperation, i guess they didnt get this big caring about how thier employees felt...
wow, another rant lol make me stop plz...
im going to bed for a few then go see whats up
later guys and thanks again

man bastid, thats a bummer.. When I worked as logistics manager at OfficeMax there was the same sense of "by the book" coldness.. I left that place before they could fire me b/c a new manager came in and started treating all the veteran employees as if they were new hires.. He had no trust, nor respect for the hard work some of us had put into being in the position we were in.. One day I let him have it and reamed him up one side and down the other about respecting his assistants and employees.. He gave me the lamest "I'm sorry you feel that way" speech and I wrote my 2 week notice right then and there. Best decision I ever made at that company, felt great too since I was handling all the work back in receiving.. Logistically, that store went to hell when I left.. People that still worked there after I left, told me that within 6 months 2 receiving supervisors had walked out and the manager ended up losing the store over it a year later after a horrible inventory, probably due to all the logistical errors that had begun to accumulate.

good luck Bastid, maybe you won't get fired afterall..

Yes. I forgot the type of work.

However, just learning the ropes can cost some real bucks. Slow working, everyone else helping, etc etc.

Might want to nip this in the bud, go to one of them right away, explain you heard rumors...and explain what you did that made you think you were all set.

Can't hurt! If you're out...you're out. But at least you tried. IMHO better than just waiting to be canned, and getting canned..without at least an explanation.

Bastid, I read this whole thread, apparently you have no union reps or are a due paying member of a association that can go to bat for you...I would try and speak to personal director, and state my case forcefuly and without emotion..Do you have any awards or atta boy certificates to show you were a good employee? If so bring them out and wave them around!!

What I hate about the situation you describe, it is 2 weeks before XMAS, I think you were on a hit list..A example so to speak..for other workers.. Just my opinion..

Crazy stuff, Bastid. Actually, he is correct though, I used to work with him and I have seen more then a few good people get canned due to going by the book. I guess whatever works for them. I don't work there anymore, but I did for like 3 years and my wife still does. That really sucks. If you do get canned, I think we are hiring, if you can handle being on the phone all day long.

Let me know. :)

p.s. Actually I believe I am the one who lead you to SG :cool:

your right, there is no union there, the last attempts to get one in there failed about 4 years ago, since that time they have been slowly taking certain little things away...why? because nobody can stop them and they know that...but hey now they will say im just a disgruntled worker, which im not, i realise i messed up and i didnt CMA...anyway, this gives me more time to play some Battle Field HAHAAAAAAAAAA yeah...lol

Thank you Silver
yeah yer the one...hehe got tired of my incessant[sp?] comp questions lol
but i tell you what, im really glad you did, this outfit is a great bunch of ppl that i am happy i can associate with!

may vary from state to state.... here, you can;t collect unemployment if you quit.

you can if you are fired or are layed off..... but circumstances can sway what exactly you are entitled to (if anything).

True

I've heard of employees asking for a layoff. Sometimes they give it, sometime they don't.

VERY sorry to hear this bastid, please, do me one favor, not so much for me but for yourself as a result of my recent job search. Look hard, look fast, look early and look thoroughly. The job market (at least here in Indianapolis) is AWFUL and it can take up to 2 or 3 months to get a job close to what you were making before. Please, I came real close with my mortgage and car payments after I was downsized the second time and just thinking about losing my job sends my bloodpressure through the roof.

I would wish you luck but I'm sure you can find the drive inside yourself to not need it.
