Which martial art form are you studying?
I don't know to much about anyone one in particular so I don't know if point sparring is unique to one type.

Thanks for the info.
I keep looking into learning a form of Kung Fu or Kenpo but I just don't have the time to fully commit and I don't want to join unless I can commit.
Best of Luck this sunday, and remember to post a pic of the trophy.![]()

Watch and Learn.Seems obvious but people tend to get caught up in the excitement. You'll find that the basics are what wins.Backfists, reverse punches to the body, and lead leg kicks to the body are the big point getters.Stick to the basics and watch the Black Belt division.Watch their techiques and what they use to score.Good luck.

Mountianman, My dad was a black belt back in the day too. My mom made it to brown as well and it was some good ol ass kicking sparring tournements. My dad was very quick.

Did you ever get to watch either of them spar or compete ?
I just remember watching him and thinking how COOL it was. There aren't a lot of times when you get to see your hero kick someone's tail around. LOL

Yeah, my dad was my idol at that time in my life. I bragged all the time about how badass he was.
My mom was badass too. The studio we went to (when I was in second grade) use to spar alot.

Laura is talking about the future now. It may be as soon as next year when we start to "make a baby". For now, we'll just stick to practice for the "big game".
Congrats.

I am studying Jui-Jitsu/Akido/Judo, mostly Karate (Kata) though.
Best thing I have done formyself... lost 33lbs so far and self confidence is rising on as daily event. No so much that I am studying a Martial Art but more so for my mental welfare.

someone at your dojo is blowing smoke up your ass or seriously doesnt know what theyre talking about to tell you that youre learning all 3.
Judo, Aikido, and even Karate are all derivatives of Ju-Jitsu. unless its Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. which i seriously doubt as 99% of BJJ guys mock traditional stylest. believe me on this one.
Judo is the direct sport form of Ju-Jitsu.
also
Ju-Jitsu, Jiu-Jitsu, and Ju-Jutsu are all accetable ways of spelling it, the most phonetically correct would be Ju-Jutsu. Jiu-Jitsu is the Brazilian way while Ju-Jitsu tends to be the American way.
