Exchange 2000 & Mailboxes

Post by magg »

Hello,

Having done a fresh OS/Exchange2k install on a server, I
cannot delete or create mailboxes on old users. The error
message is;

"There is no Connection Agreement configured to export
this recipient to the Exchange 5.5 server."

This is happening when going through ADUC, user > Exchange
Task..

It mentions Exchange 5.5 but we have a clean 2000 install
on here.

Any ideas?

Many thanks.

Was Exchange installed previously, and you've re-installed onto another server? If so, was the the original prior install an upgrade from 5.5? Did you have an AD connector configured previously for that install?

That sounds about right.

Exchange 5.5 was installed on a different server before, which has been removed, a fresh server built and Exchange 2000 installed.

I guess there are still some remenants left on the PDC somewhere but I can't find any fix for this and I'd like to avoid deleting and adding users again if possible.

Ouch- so you didn't migrate the Exchange 5.5 server to the 2K Exchange? You just wiped the old server? Hmmmm...... not sure what to tell you to do here, as that's not how you're supposed to do it.

I would check around the Tek-Tips exchange forum- there's some real Exchange gurus there. If you're really stuck, post back and I'll look up the solution for you.

Gotcha-

Well, I've never had to recover from this, but there are myriads of articles on configuring the ADC. I don't know the ramifications of deleting / modifying a current ADC. You should have the Active Directory Connector Management console installed from the previous install on the DC, right? I don't even have a migrated 5.5 that I can gain access to in order to look at it. I'd begin searching for how to modify the AD Connector. That's where I believe your problem lies. You took existing 5.5 Exch. objects (mailboxes) and moved them into the AD schema through the connector tool. Now, the AD objects (exch) you created are still being referenced in the ASD connector.

BTW- just curious- how did Norton screw up your server? You didn't run a scan on your databases and log files did you??

About Norton, everything was running fine after building the server and migrating from 5.5 to 2000. We installed Norton AV and from then on, we couldn't dequeue mail.

For some reason, the server just wouldn't ping out no matter what we tried and we had no default gateway. The ISP was stumped and finally asked if we'd installed Norton which they said could cause this, it's a known issue so they say..

Uninstalled Norton but still had the same problem so figured it's quicker to start over as it was a new server anyway.

Thanks for the help by the way twwabw, I'll take a look at the ADC :)
