So why not weed out the llamas with a paragraph of sig?

What is there more of... llama sigs or perfectly fine sigs?

The reason for this is that some members have taken advantage of signatures. We decide that it would be best to implement a 5 line policy. We announced it so that everyone would have the opportunity to change their signature without a Mod changing it for you.

Well it certainly was not meant to make you feel this way. We are only doing what we feel is best for the forums.

because for the mods to go through all the users sigs would be impossible, they are giving us the opportunity to do it ourselves,I think it's a good idea myself.

does this mean that say someone like BB_Nemesis could string his in sentence form instead of the easier to read list that it is now and it would be okay? Same with someone like Pings. IMO it will look more cluttered in sentence form than it does now. I really think this is a weird number. were the boards getting to many screens long for the liking? now in sentence form, the sigs will look worse and be read less.

well the 5 line limit is damn tight, i mean even hardforums get 10 and 10 including spaces isnt that bad, if its to gett ppl to stop quoting others in their sig, well just say dont quote ppl, i cant see how 10 would hurt.

If that is what they choose to do that is fine and is staying within the 5 line rule. However like you stated it will look cluttered and be read less.

The signatures are not meant for advertising purposes or we would have our SG ads attached there. The signature are there to put anything that you feel suits your personality.

The thing that everyone forgets is this a Privledge not a necessity.

crazy i agree with what you have said, but its good to see the system specs of other users, and 5 lines wont really say much! and as it has been pointed out if i try to fit mine into 5 lines it will not look neat.

maybe the new rule could adopt a better policy, pc specs = 11 lines, and all other sigs = 5.

sounds like your saying its a gift to us all, forums all over the net have sigs, sg is not being special in letting us have our own little space.

as for advertising, this forum is about all kinds of pc related topics, and therefore a sig showing what we have is a good thing.

not really trying to cause problems, BUT. what exactly is trying to be accomplished here? i understand that we don't want the sigs abused, but what constitutes abuse? One word links to external sites or more than 10 lines of text be it one word per line or several? Seems like this may go in line with the thread I saw that John had closed with the Link to Speedguide in big text in the body of the message and thats all. if thats the case fine. But why then knock out a nice list of PC specs or a quote that may be longer than 5 lines that fits your personality.

It is the lines that are causing the problem, not really what is being used as a Sig.

For example:

this would
be to
long
since it is making the post
longer
then it
would using
the 5 line rule.

If we continue to do this
then people will just
keep getting
more and more
carried away with it

Mouse I never realized how appropriate your Avatar was until now :) I'm sure everyone posting in this thread is not attacking you about this rule. Just started feeling that way so I wanted to make sure I said it. Besides what fun would we be if we didn't question things.

Come on People not everything has to turn into a fight. We announced it like this so we would not have to point anyone out and start sending warnings. We do understand about PC stats like BB's but we can't monitor every little thing. It is easier to just set one rule and make it straight across the board for everyone.

Hell even brent will have to Modify his Sig...

im not haveing a fight, why say that? i thought i was asking why you feel the need to make this new 5 line rule. and judgeing by some of the replys it seems many also think spam sigs are a pain but sys specs, is something most would like to keep.

Although you might not be fighting, using the word “Nazi” has a way of elevating tension levels. Perhaps another word less controversial might not have caused concern.

keep in mind Signature length also depends on what Window Size and Screen Resolution you are using

If you have a small screen resolution say 800x600 it will wrap the text more on that then if someone is at 1280x1024 for example

Or if you change your window size from maximized to resize and resize it

so it's all reletive to the person looking at the signature

for you no big deal, but for others we dont really want to change our sigs. its not the end of the world we all know this, but i dont think i would laugh my ass off as its not that funny, also id sooner look at a sig like mine then have to look at a dumb looking sig like yours.

exactly.. so whats the big damn deal? were you mods bored??? wtf??

Ithink Ive only seen a few sgis that were redundant in my mind.. the rest I could care less about.. they in no way effected the way I browse the board.. why get everyone's panties in a bunch by making general poulation rules when theres really only a few people who this rule apply to any how?

The reason for this is that some members have taken advantage of signatures.
My problem was with that statement.

"Taken advantage of" makes me sound like some sort of conniver - bending the rules of the system to fit my whims, in some plot to defy the powers that be with the size of my sig, which is totally not so.

I have shrunk it down a bit, but just asking nicely would have gotten the same result, as opposed to being accused of "Taking advantage of (anything)" and forced to with a rule.

But hey, no fighting though. This is the way SG must be. Rules upon rules to stifle the opportunistic masses. :(

Again with modifying our signatures. The pictures I could understand... I guess... but not this.

Let's see a sample sig from before the rule:

1.4 athlon 266fsb
Iwill KD266-R-DDR MB
herc G2 32mb ddr
IBM 60GXP 40GB 8.5ms 7200rpm
soundblaster 5.1
dxr3 dvd card
512 DDR ram
CLabs 5.1 Surround Speakers

Now, With the rule:

1.4 athlon 266fsb Iwill KD266-R-DDR MB herc G2 32mb ddr
IBM 60GXP 40GB 8.5ms 7200rpm soundblaster 5.1 dxr3 dvd card 512 DDR ram CLabs 5.1 Surround Speakers

I liked #1 myself. I'd rather look at a list, then some strung out PoS signature. Also, I've never noticed a problem with the lengths of the signatures myself. So I ask:

Why?
So trade that typical for something colorful, and if it's crazy live a little crazy!
