ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 0 => class 0, default (routine)
ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 254 => ?
254 = 111 111 10
111 => Network Control
1 => Low Delay
1 => High Throughput
1 => High Reliability
1 => Low Cost
0 => MBZ checking bit (Must Be Zero)
hmm, "ToS = 254" so weird setting for me.
recommended TOS Value => 0(default), 80, 136 & 184 => depending by DiffServ Field
# OS: Windows, Linux # Browser: Blink, Gecko, Presto, Webkit + Squid + Bind
yap, but he was saidmccoffee wrote:maybe i need an rfc refresher but as said above sometimes another server sets that value.
normally last 2 digit always set "00", for decimal 254 last 2 binary digit "10".100 010 00 wrote:Why u recommend 0? I use to set this to 254 and i can achieve half of megabit more in my connection. im asking because i dont know what is going on with the isps around there

11111110=254, i know that this is overall network control, and the last digit must be zero, i'll check it out once again when ill find an xp machine and time. remember that my package is 24/1mbit (22/1 sync) over dsl and i mean that, i can achieve 19,7~8 and without tos value or even less about 19,2 or something like that.

Could be that your ISP has adjusted network control to be equal to 0...lol100 010 00 wrote: edited: After several speedtests, i dont see any differences in dl speeds (weird, before 2 years i swear in, that i have seen differences) but the general internet response times, are much better with tos 254.

in my case:
i set TCP Optimizer Settings

see, i cannot read ToS Settings from TCP Analyzer result

Thanks for catching that. You're right, seems the values are correct, just that the descriptions were wrong on those two throughput/reliability ToS settings.
It's been corrected.
Oh, and here are the ToS values from the RFCs, they're listed in the tables: http://www.speedguide.net/tcpoptimizer.php#advanced_qos
The only problem with ToS of 254 is that it does not have a DiffServ equivalent, which is a bit newer QoS variant. In a DiffServ environment, it may be better to set it differently, as per the DiffServ table in the above link.
It's been corrected.
