I use Win2k and I use NTFS on all my PCs and its great, no problems at all. Fat32 should be used only for Win9x, its an old technology. NTFS supports a lot more security and is faster. If you are sharing MP3s or something between OS's or something, put the mp3s on the fat32 hd so you can access em between both OS's. Hope that helps.

I preferr FAT32 over NTFS.
When I ran NTFS it really seemed to run alot slower than FAT32 and Norton Utilities caused a grip of errors on NTFS as well.
From what I understand NTFS has added security and is supposed to be more stable, not the case with my system.
I ran a duel boot and couldn't see the win2k partition in Win98, didn't really care for that, I like to work with both OS's so if I have work in 2k and I am useing 98 I can't access with the NTFS partition, but with FAT32 I could jump back and forth within each OS.
I hope this helps some.

i"ve used win2k with both fat and ntfs, I notice absolutely no difference, actually, my computer seemed to be much more stable with fat32, could be a bad ntfs install, I don't know, I'm still trying to figure out if anyone can help me find the right VIA drivers for my mobo, anyone want to help me out? it wouldn't take long at all, maybe a minute or 2, PM me please, I apreciate it.

Security isnt really that important for home users, just use Zone Alarm or something to keep out internet hacks and the like.Originally posted by EvilAngel

Stability is a definate plus in NTFS, but utilities like Norton don't like it too well, this should be fixed in new 2002 version thou.
EvilAngel is right, the only real problem is that Win9x can't see a NTFS partition, Win2k running on NTFS can see a Fat32 Partition though (Just like Linux being able to see win but win partitions cant see Linux without a little help)

Heya Minir,
I'm using NTFS. It's fast and all, but its not compatable with Fat32, so it makes swapping out files on different drives a bit difficult.
I've heard people say that Fat32 is actually faster than NTFS. The best advice I can give you is to try out both formats and see which one benefits you better. It might take more time reinstalling and formating, but in the end it will be worth it because your system will be optimized for you!

ok this security "crap" is not as much file system related as it has to do with Win2k which uses NTFS
I tried to network 2 comps 1x Win98SE and 1x Win 2k at one time....
I tried EVERYTHING I could possibly think of....
no-go...
later, the friend I did it for upgraded the Win98SE system to W2km and guess what?
We had the Network up and running in no time....
but since NTFS goes with Win2k, NT4 (??not sure about that)
I say NTFS sux....

Norm. You might want to check out a program called GoBack at http://www.roxio.com/en/products/goback/index.html .Originally posted by Norm
If I have problems with Win2K, I can boot to Win98 and remove/copy/rename/ etc files on the Win2K partiton. This comes in handy at times, since I'm always trying new things that can, and do, screw my Win2K up at times. Also I can delete the Win2K Page file if I want to from within 98.
I use it on W98SE, and am always messing with the registry. If I totally crew up the PC. I just revert the entire drive back to before i messed it up. It has saved my Butt many, many, many times.
