The part I want to verify is not what a VPN is, but rather the concept of DES/3DES, MDS/SHAW?. In other words what exactly does those protocols do, want to know if the expalnation I wrote is correct?

Hello all. I have a simple request. does anybody know where I can find some type of vpn log explenation for the befsx41,befvp41 or rv082 vpn router. reason being is that I want to know what the error messages mean and how to read my logs. Any help is very appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.

thanks for the reply fellows, one more thing I dont understand here, if IKE hadles the authentication and encryption then what does ISAKMP do? Sorry for the stupid question.

If you have more than one pc you will then need a router. You setup the router depending on the type of account you have(most likely you have a PPPoe account). then you just click on I.E. and you can get to the net with all the computers.

I would go for any linksys router. Have had good experience with them.

I have heard about this before but never really paid attention to it, SPI. what does this exactly do? I have it on my befsx41 router.

O.k. fellows I tried a different firmware and I only forward port 1723 and it works fine, the problem was the firmware. Thanks fellows.

o.k. I follwed instructions and I forward both ports and did not work, so I forward only 1723 and still did not work. I think I might have to try a different firmware a earlier one, what do you guys think?

Hello all. I have an FTP site with usernames and passwords, I enabled WRITE access so I can upload to my ftp server from anywhere now it works but other users without admin rights can do this also, which I dont like, is there a way to restrict who can upload?

Hell all. O.k. here are the results and what I did. I installed windows 2003 server to test it out, and did the zones just how the link shows and all error messages are gone, and now my pc that used to take 2-3 min to log in now takes about 10 seconds. again, thanks to everyone.

I cant thank you guys enought for the help, One last thing can you guys post a screenshot or send me a link that has screenshots on how to set up the right way the zones for DNS, i think I narrow it down to that being the problem.

How do I set up DDNS on the server.

I have set norton to run early in the morning once a day and i also did a windows update late last night on the clients and server. I did create the zones. what do you mean if the zones populate.

I set up DHCP on the server and computers get an ip address fro m it and the correct DNS but I still get the same error. I also removed one of the computers from the domain and rejoined it and no luck. on the server I checked the error logs for DNS and it has no error, but I checked the error log on ...

I disabled the DHCP on the router but did not set dhcp on the server I gav the computers a static ip address and it did the same thing, now I will set DHCP on the server and see what happens, the computers dont lose signal to the server and all connectivity is good, no packets loose nothing like ...

2-3 and I actually did look at my clock. Like I said in my first post, could it just be that my server is just too old or not up to par to be a win2k server?

after the DNS changes I rebooted server and clients and still took long to log in, I checked the even viewer for error messages and did not find errors, I also checked cpu usage and meme usage
on both server and client and have less thand half of it in use.

On my last reply I did post the results of the servers ip address and the clients ip address. I also did take out the second entry on the server of the DNS so now it just has it's own.

I got some bad new. It still did not fix my issue. I had to reboot my pc and still lags the same amount time. I run ipconfig /all and now my DNS points to my server and nothing else but still slow.
I set up my forwards just how the screen shots show but still no luck. I'm lost
