Your public IP can be changed also by changing the MAC address on the WAN of your router. Many routers have this feature. You can simply go up one octet.. like aa:bb:cc:dd:11:22:77:11 to aa:bb:cc:dd:11:22:77:12 or aa:bb:cc:dd:11:22:78:11 Then reboot your modem.

It does not have a battery installed ...

Yeah- the service password does get me in to most of the settings but there is an "Installer" password that allows a setting that I need in order for this thing to work..

Ive got to bug the latest company to "own" the trademarks to see if they have anything. Till then- back to the drawing ...

I used to run an Hmail server here and utilized the function to delay email unless white listed.. Fly by nite spammers sometimes set up servers that do not wait and will drop emails pretty quick when the target server does not reply quickly..

Im loving my new Motorola MB8600 now that my ISP has their act together. The Arris SB8200 also a good choice is based on the same chipset but runs a tad warmer under normal operation. Heads up for anyone looking for a backwards compatible D3.1 solution.

What kind of hard drives are on those machines? PATA, SATA, ect... Your also limited by the bus speed and other programs running in the background.

Your slowest machine is going to be the bottleneck.

Cablemodems dont have setting you can go in and change... Gateways do but not on the modem part of it...

You may be experiencing slowdowns caused by a busy node in your area...

This is quite high, just barely lower than the maximum of 55. Probably it fluctuates, so could be causing problems:

USB could be causing you these issues.


What is the model of your dsl modem?

You can plug directly from the ethernet port to your computers ethernet port just as you would your usb connection. The router is highly recommended but not necessary for it to work...

You need someone with a spectrum analyzer.

When your signal disappears, do the distant AP's also go away?

Try changing the channel of your AP to something else like 1 or 11.

Get a copy of netstumbler installed on your xp laptop. You can watch the signal strength of multiple AP's easier that way ...

Now you have two separate modem logs with the same problems showing that you can present to them.

By contrast, my modem logs one line every two or three weeks.

Have you enabled file and printer sharing on both computers?

this alone tells me its the ISP's issue and they need to come out and look at your lines and so forth. Could be packetloss at a hop on their network which they need to fix.

Most isp's for home use only give out one IP address. One connection at a time.

set your router for dhcp or cable connection. That way it will get an address automatically from the modem.

If its 192.168.1.X make sure your lan is on a differnt subnet. Say 192.168.10.X would work.

It could be your modem also. Its not anything Id worry about.

Try pinging 192.168.100.1 and

also 192.168.1.1 (if thats your router address) and see if they answer...

Your gateway ping looks good! In fact, your total ping looks good!
