I just checked that for you. There is no icon extension path shown. It only says Icon in the Advanced window. Icons open with the extension .ico

I think you have to change the folders icons through windows explorer. I cannot find the system recycle bin icon without handles. I have it as my icon, but I do not know where XP stores them

You can put them anywhere. Just click on the current icon properties and select "Change Icon" and point it to the folder and icon of your choice.
