Hi, Due to external circunstances i will have to sell my beatifull laptop whihc is:

Dell Inspiron 8100
PIII-M 1.20Ghz
512MB Ram
30GB HDD
Gforce 2 2Go 32MB ( TV/Out - S-Video-RCA- )
CD-RW/DVD 8x Combo Drive ( It is SCSI devices, so i ll be faster than IDE )
15" UXGA ( Ecxelent resolution 1600x1200 ...

well i have a Dell and everything its fine i formated the HDD and even installed SuSE linux 8.0 and it rules.

What might have happened is that as dell has a 30MB partition for some drivers and some other stuff you might ereased without knowing ;) .

Also that applies to Some HP Notebooks and ...

hummm i have SuSE and i havent seen any option on the boot loader to install it on other HDD ( ITS NOT LIKE LILO ON MANDRAKE on this you can select where to put it and i repeat i didnt seen any option like this on SuSE, in fact i didnt look for it) but it may be possible, i would recommend to ...

Sorry to hear that and that you didnt have a happy ending.

But that gives us a warning now i am going to put all my software, Mp3s and movies to an external HDD and then i ll put it under my bed

HDD2 20GB EXT2

Thats one HDD and then all the Sorage HDDs on FAT32 so i can shre them with my other linux System and when i boot to linux on this machine

What are the risk of over burning ?? Just that you will mess up your Drive ?? or there is any other problems that i may get ?

and if its only that i my burner will get mess up thats an excuse to get a new one since they are soo cheap now plus and emplyee discount it would be like 20 bucks for a 32X ...

Those CDs only work with software that allows you overburn (like Nero and others ) that why i think i may be able to use the 1.3Gb CDs. Right now i can put 798MB in a single 700MB CD

it maigh be 2 things temperature and CPU voltage. I had the same problem and it was the CPU Voltage that was wrong, were i you i ll check that first

humm i dont know about that one, but i have Aver TV Deluxe and its pretty good it can capture 720x480 on real time with MPEG2 encoding the only thing its that it doesnt have the MP3 coding on it, However the software that comes with the card s*cks and i use WinDVR from Intervideo and its really good

i dunno, i have an older card live! 5.1 and the speakers 5.1 same problem no audion on the central speaker. IT MUST BE SOMETHING on the pc since at work we had a display with the EXTAGY and it had central audio, ( same speakers )

Depending on which UNIX system your using you'll probly need to know how to use fdisk, create a slice, and disklabel it. Then you'll need to create a mount point (if it does'nt already have one) and format it

But you can give it a shot format the disk to FAT32 and then try to copy the FILES from UNIX to the disk and try to open them on WINDOZE

Only if the disk has FAT32 format otherwise its not going to. I think Linux doesnt reconize FAT only FAT32. At least that works on HDD, i havent tryed with floppies

if your PC is working fine with no problems dont flash the BIOS, Flashing the BIOS is an Option ( most of the times ) for people having prblems , a lot of problems. If you have problems with your mobo or any other kind of hardware related do it otherwise dont

when they advertize speeds on internet connections they do it ON "bits" and not "Bytes". For example: they say 1.5Mbits IT REALLY MEANS 150KBps. so you are getting what they advertized 512Kbits= 50KB, so there is nothing you can do about it. At least you uncap your modem which can give you problems ...

not possible to boot to estarnal devices UNLESS you use a boot disk that enables the driver for the USB or Firewire and then you can boot to the external Disk, is you use USB 1.1 its going to be slow, USB2.0 and fireWire would make it a lot faster
