Update - I did make the purchase. I stayed with the Intel motherboard. I purchased the RAM direct from Mushkin. So, if I have any problems with the voltage and timings, I can get direct service from them. They garanteed it to meet the exact 1.8 volt 5-5-5-12 timings.
I did go with the 8800GTS also ...

Thanks you VERY much Amro, Yard, and all for answering and helping me with this build. I appreciate it.
No, I am not deadset on the Intel motherboard. I have owned two Asus P4P800 motherboards and had bad luck with them. I also had a bad RMA experience with Asus. It's kinda left me with a bad taste ...

I found a very good article on the 7950GT (512MB version) vs the 8800GTS (320MB version). The 8800GTS smokes the 7950. See the article...

the 320MB gts will be faster. the difference in ram improves performance (between the two gts models) when you hit 1680x1050 resolution or higher w/ AA enabled. stick w/ the GTS, even tho it has less ram than the 7950GT..there's a HUGE performance difference (8800gts beats it out big time)

The 320MB 8800GTS are only about $34-$40 more. The 640MB ones, though are still about $100 more.YARDofSTUF wrote:See no reason not to step up to a 8800GTS, only like 35 bucks more and you get DX10 support.
I'm not sure about the difference from 320 MB to 640MB is on the 8800GTS's. The 7950 I've speced is 512MB.

It's time to upgrade my old PC (3 GHz PIV on a Asus P4P800 board). Here is what I have come up with. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Ken's B-day and 5 years for me
I haven't post in a LONG time everyone. Sorry. I get on today, which by the way, is my official 5 year anniversary at SG. Then I go and find out it is also Ken's birthday. Finaly, it is my 1000th post.
Could it be fate or just plain coincidental?
THis is getting strange.

Thanks everyone. I got a great day going so far. The wife and kids let me sleep in late. The kids woke me up around 8:45 AM and the wife had warm cinnamon rolls and coffee ready. It smelled good. They got me a cool Iowa Hawkeye trailer hitch cover, a new coffee pot for our camper, and best of all ...
