Compatibility can be one of the issue or their are two ways to sort this kind of problem either make some hit and trial methods like one of them is you can give it a try to other channels or change to some other available options, other service providers.

I too would like to know the answer as I have the same problem, except that I have my laptop working wirelessly through a wireless router, but the desktop will still not connect to some sites using a USB adapter. I have set up all the ports in the router, set to PPPOE, and MTU to 1400.

Enabling the specified in range network connection and disabling the other available ones in the adapter settings can sort the problem, IP4 connectivity may work rather than IP6.

Try re-installing your drivers in safe mode "press F8" during booting. Also make sure all the wireless settings are the same as your router, such as wireless encryption and make sure you set your router/modem to AES not TKIP because TKIP only supports 54mbps while AES goes up to 300mbps.
