A question About Realtek RTL8139 Fast Ethernet NIC
Earlier today, I installed a Realtek RTL8139 Fast Ethernet NIC in my Compaq Presario 5030 desktop. After installing the newly-released 6.18 drivers and getting it working, I went into its properties section to check the settings. I am not sure if I selected the correct settings, so I am posting them ...

McCoffee or Mnosteele will answer you. For starters, they'll probably have you change your RWIN value. If you don't have Cablenut 4.08 downloaded and installed yet, do it now.

To Mnosteele And McCoffee - ZoneAlarm
Although I don't use ZoneAlarm(nor any other firewall, for that matter), I just noticed today that removing it from a computer is now among your list of tweaks. I was just curious as to why.

Update: The Roadrunner download speed cap was raised in my area on Tuesday night from 2000 to 3000. I'm now averaging about 2800.
I'm using a value of 128480 for GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize and TcpWindowSize because I was actually getting lower speeds by leaving them blank in the Cablenut adjuster. The ...

I received an E-mail from Roadrunner several weeks ago, stating that they had increased the speeds to their business class service to 768/3000, and if I wanted to subscribe to it. At $140.00 a month, I declined. I'm content to pay $45.00 a month for the home service with 384/2000 speeds ...

I just received a message from a representative of Time-Warner Roadrunner in Tampa, Florida. He advised me that the download cap has not been raised from 2000 and 3000.
Obviously, this is not the case because more than one of you have commented on this forum about having increased download speeds ...

The only protocol you need is "Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)". You can delete the rest.
Your download cap is 1800 kilobits per second, so it is 225 kilobytes per second(1800 divided by 8).
Have you installed Cablenut 4.08 yet?

I was also going to ask if 49152 for DefaultSendWindow would be the correct value (384/8 x 1024) instead of 65536.
Also, would 64240 or higher be a more appropriate value for GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize and TcpWindowSize instead of 37960?

And you really believe that, right?
A decent download throughput speed for 56K dial-up is 5.0 - 6.0 KB/s. That means a 200 KB test file would take 33 - 40 seconds to download.
