agreed with SPAZO, definately static ip address's, try and keep your routers, swithces the same brand, rules out compatability problems. (buying in bulk can be cheaper too). You may get more specifics if you define the departments a little more, because you may not want some departments connecting ...

to clarify

1 wired router
2 wireless routers (1 is dsl the other adsl)
1 switch


so i set the DHCP pool on the wired router to 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.252 then plug each of the wireless routers (with ip address's 192.168.1.253 & 192.168.1.254) using network cables (not patch cables) into the the ...

ok this may seem a little over the top to some people but the presence of 2 wireless routers in me house would be most beneficial. The hardware i possess is a cable modem with a simple lan cable output.
