SURFboard Modem Question

My SURFboard Motorola Modems Downstream Power Level is -4dBmV.

It sometimes goes to -5dBmV.

I saw somewhere that if it gets to -5 you should go change it, and it should be around 1 to -1.

Is that true?

I can check it tommorrow and if me and my dad see anything...well call the tech. My dad is an elec as his side job...i just called him at work he said tommorrow we can check it...and if anything is wrong we'll call the tech. MY dad has a a device that checks this stuff..

The cable runs from the modem to a jack in the wall (which i didnt see)...the cable isnt connected directly fomr the modem to the splitter.

When i applied the tweaks with TCP the vidoes online started loading very slowly. My Podcasts on Itunes started taking forever to load. So i used Winsockxpfix again and everything went back to normal....But im still geting around 100Kb/s on most downloads. Except for the three links you gave me.

Its about the same...with the Tweaks im getting about 1000Kb/s on the first two but the third link doesnt work.

Im getting close to a 1000kb/s from each (3rd link doesnt work)....I'll try using the TCP settings you gave me and try downloading them again.

I have no idea why im getting 40 to 60Kb/s download. Im downloading from Downloads.com. I'll try other websites, if i can think of anything thats a medium sized download to try.

My download speeds are the same as when i had my settings tweaked. Its still averaging around 40 to 60Kb/s.

Cannot check it visually. If all else have been checked and found problem free, we just get a new splitter to see if that will solve the problem..

well....I cant find another splitter right now...I'll check tommorrow...im about to go. What if the Splitter is not the problem...is there anything ...

I am trying to think for a possible cause for this in your nitro report:

"There were 43 packets retransmitted, 176 duplicate acks received, and 143 SACK blocks received"

These are usually associated with lost or damaged data packets. If your cables are new, what about your splitter?

I have my Modem, next to it is a Stack of Blank CDs and DVDs then next to that is the Switch, and next to the Switch is the Router. all on a shelf. And right under the shelf beneath the modem is my tower....thats about everything that close to it. or within 5ft.

Even though im not directly connected to the router but to the switch...You think other people besides my Sisters Laptop and my nintendo wii are limiting my network.,My sisters laptop and the Nintendo wii are the only Mac Addressed i allowed ...

Turn off your router and connect your comp directly to the modem by cable and test your speed. This is to eliminate any cause for slow speed at the Nic or router.

I tried both NIC...the integrated one and one i bought...When i connected it directly to the modem it said Limited or no connectivity ...

Well my Modem is Motorola SurfBoard which is hooked up to the Wireless Router (Linksys WRT54G v.5) the Router is hooked up to my Gigabit Switch (Netgear) The Switch is hooked up to my Desktop to a Roswill Gigabit NIC card.

Need Help With Tweaking!!!!

I had just bought a Gigabit Switch and i need help tweaking.
My Cable Modem is hooked up to a Linksys Router...The Router is hooked up to the Gigabit Switch and the Switch is hooked up to my Desktop. Im getting Gigabit speed.

I have Road Runner..... Up to 7-10 Mbps downloads
