Re: same problem, com21 with linksys router
Had the exact same problem as you did. It took me a long time to solve it. I found out that it was the crappy COM21 cable modem. This cable modem is a piece of junk. Call up your cable company whoever you're with and get them to switch cable modems. Tell them that latency is an issue, and that the ...

This looks like my classic problem. I went through a 10 Mb hub to a 10/100 Mb switch then to a Linksys router and then found out it was my crappy cable modem that was causing the lag. It happens every so often, lag will spike up to the 1000 ms latency and higher. I had a Com21 DOXport 1010 Cable ...

As for your remark about other than USB cable link, I'd believe you want to refer to CAT5 cable maybe? I haven't dealt with the USB Linksys router before, so I'm going to guess that it's relatively the same as my Linksys BEFSR41 router (4 port router, CAT5 hookup). Anyhow, make sure that your cable ...

Hmmm. Win2K... I don't have this OS, so I probably be missing steps or telling something else. Well, if you go into the Network properties, you can remove the Ethernet. That will get rid of the protocols along with it (or that's how it's done with Win9x/Me). I believe that your notebook should come ...

You can get update drivers at http://www.netgear.com/
I would recommend that you uninstall the drivers and reinstall it. Also, try to set on auto negotiation. I have WinME, and I the only tweaks I apply are the patches available on this website. I also run firmware 1.38.5 for the BEFSR41, going to ...

I have a FA410TX for my Presario notebook 17XL260. Well, the max I've gotten out of this is over 10 Mbps, or around more than 1 MBps when transfering to another computer. I have it on auto negotiation. Do you have the latest drivers installed for the NIC? I have a Linksys BEFSR41 that the NIC goes ...

RcvWindow Limits?
From SpeedGuide's TCP/IP Analyzer, there's this following information:
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 20556.8 kbps (2569.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 8222.72 kbps (1027.84 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

Well, one way to find out is to actually load up a game, find a server, and try to play! If you could play, then you're all fine. About the pinging problem, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Pinging you from other people's computer goes through a different port than playing a game at a certain ...

Yeah, I have @Home service, and a SB3100... When you say GI, does your cable modem says "GI3100"... Because GI is also known as Motorola, and Motorola makes cable modems called SURFboard (SB)... I can log onto my cable modem and look at the stats, but still, if my assumption is correct about when ...

Just where do you get your bandwidth information at? I do have the GI3100 (really SB3100). I looked through the pages that the cable modem offers, but the only thing that would represent bandwidth is in Hz. Is there a formula to convert Hz into bits?

Well, to tell you the truth, @Home is starting to put caps. My upload was free to go 1 Mb/s, but now, it is down to 128 Kb/s. They're starting to cap the uploads. My download speed is still the same - 3 Mb/s. I also notice that during the evening hours, @Home is slow and latency jumps up big time. =(

Waferdog is correct. I also have a Linksys BEFS41. You are to plug your CAT5 cable from your cable modem into the WAN port. Cable modems run on a 10 Mb half-duplex. You cannot force your cable modem to 10 Mb full duplex, 100 Mb half duplex nor 100 Mb full duplex. Cable modem could only except 10 Mb ...
