Another stupid MS move. It was much easier to browse through the cookies and delete ones you didn't want, but keep ones that are useful, like various bank sites, etc. I mistakenly wiped all the text name ones out and then found my bank no longer showed my computer registered, those kind of problems.

Windows 8 & Windows Defender (MSE)
I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials for a couple years now. Ever since people here turned me onto it, I was using Avira before that. I use it on my own computers and most of the people I help with tech support issues. Shortly after Windows 8 came out, I found out that MSE was now incorpo...

Cookies File Names
I just noticed that my computer has changed the way the file names for IE are showing up in Windows Explorer. I have XP SP2 with IE8. They used to have my profile name "owner" and then the website, such as owner@www.cnn.com[1].txt. Now they appear with a random 8 character n...

Laptop, Battery and Internet
I'm having a problem with my wife's laptop. It seems when it is running on the battery, the OS will freeze up more often than not, requiring a hard reboot. The only thing I have been able to track so far is that this seems to start while in Internet Explorer. If I run the laptop on battery and do ot...

Canon MF4150 Image Class - SCAN PROBLEM
I was helping someone with a Canon MF4150 Image Class and we have a strange problem. It is connected USB to a computer with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I installed all the usual Canon Drivers and Helper Apps. When we print, it responds right away, no problems. But when we scan, we open the progra...

Thanks for the reply. I personally think he's out of luck. I looked around in the program and cannot even find a company name to see if they are still around. But when you run it, it makes (if not already there) a file called calendar.fil. In that is all the data, as well as user settings such as co...

Hi all, another problem now regarding this same Old DOS-Based Calendar program. This guy apparently lost any old copies of the data file and his data file got corrupted. I have saved the corrupted file, in the meantime we created a new data file, but he's begging to get the old file repaired. He say...

Using 3 monitors on an HP 6804
I was helping someone who wants to add a third monitor to his HP6804. He currently has dual monitors already. How can I go about helping him do this? The motherboard has an integrated VGA & DVI and those are what is currently in use. The specs say they become disabled if you install a video card.

Sava700, thanks, I will read over that blog when I get a little more time. RaisinCain, sorry, I did research, but it was along the lines of what features the device had, I was especially comparing whether I wanted this one or the Kindle Fire, (which we had seen over the Thanksgiving weekend, a visit...

Virus/Malware Protection for an Android Tablet
Hi all and Merry Christmas, We are getting a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus for Christmas. Mostly for my wife, (her gift - she wants it for games, mostly, maybe some reading), but I'll use it for Web & Skype when travelling, and possibly for GPS. Anyway, I just read a blurb on ZDNET about a lot of ...

Outlook, Windows 7 & Mail To Links Problem
Hi, hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I helped someone out and I wiped their drive clean then installed a clean copy of Windows 7 Home Premium x64. This was out of the MS package and no "brand name extra junk loaded". Then I installed MS Office 2007 with Outlook. He only wants Outloo...

Thankee mates! Now at least I have some idea of where to look. I thought it related to the battery backup because when I was there last, I noticed when she printed it set off the alarm on the UPS. So I thought maybe the battery no longer held a charge and when it tripped over, she lost power. That i...

PC Power Cycles when printing
I'm putting this in hardware, but it could be software as well, if so, sorry. I have to look at a computer tomorrow that the user claims that everytime she clicks to print anything, the PC cuts off and then restarts. She had it on a battery backup and I instructed her to connect the computers power ...

Windows 7/Vista Desktop Icons Appearance
This may be a dumb question, but I cannot find the answer anywhere, Google searches and looking at various settings. My (2) Windows 7 computers, the desktop icons look like normal icons and if you click them once they get selected/highlighted, that's it. But on several other peoples computers I've s...

Thanks, not sure about Macrium. I did this on this same server back in March 2007 using Acronis. Booted to Acronis, took a full image from the old RAID Array. Replaced the drives then booted to Acronis and restored the image onto the new blank RAID Array and that worked. Acronis just treated it like...

I need to help an office out that says their current server has 2 hard drives in RAID 0 and the want to go to mirrored, RAID 1. Last weekend I was helping someone how had the svchost.exe virus and I would go into tm and stop the service, I could distinguish the correct instance of svchost because most list SYSTEM or LOCAL SERVICE as the User Name running it, but this one listed OWNER. So I was looking in my tm and found that...

Dell Dimension C521
I am trying to remove the Front Bezel Assembly on a Dell Dimension C521 and am running into problems. Also, Google searches I have done for help on this, only tell me how to remove the normal side access panel, not the Front Bezel. I have removed the CD Drive, the CPU Heat Sink, the Front I/O Board,...
