HCC-001 & Epox 8K3A+

Post by LT-73 »

Hey guyz need a little input.

I'm getting my new mobo soon and a friend is sending me the coolermaster HCC-001 heatpipe. Here's my question:

Because of the heatpipes protruding out the side, will it clear the northbridge heatsink on the 8K3A+ ? I also have a hsf i pulled from a pentium 166 which i lapped to a gleamming shine and gave the fan an overhaul and i'm thinking of switching.

Now the hsf from the 166 is just about the same size, or not smaller, than the heatsink on the 8K3A+. I just wanna be prepared in case i have to do some modifications such as trimming the heatsink from the mobo down or install my Volcano 7 . If i trim the pentium hsf, the fan might not fit.

I know you guyz that have the heatpipe have come across this situation b4, so if you have any ideas, plz let me know.

TIA ;)

HCC-001 has no heatpipes. Do you mean the HHC-001? (I have this on an old Giga-byte GA-7IXE4 mobo) If so, measure the distance between your "brown socket lever" & the "Northbridge chip" or "Northbridge chip fan" (if you modded one on). If you end up with a distance of more than 2cm you will be okay. 2cm is the furthest extent that I measured of those pipes. After looking at the specs and pics of your mobo in question, it seems highly positive for that mobo and hs/f combo. Your only concern would be the huge mounting clip that will be positioned in the same direction that your RAM is located. It is hard to decifer from the pic w/o RAM installed whether or not that will be a prob, the clip does sit pretty high though. From looking at it in general, it seems that you wil be ok. Good mobo btw, according to Ken and a few other'z who have this mobo. I have the hs/f set and for your curiousity here'z some current specs with that hs/f from my rig:

Combo: WinMe/XP on GA-7IXE4/1.1@1.2TBird/HHC-001
7200rpm/60x60mm/all copper base "lapped-mirror finish"
36.11CFM (factory spec)
42+dba (I don't care; 50% hearing loss anyway until next surgery)
29-32*C@idle
40-45*C@full

And yes Hawaiian Ghost, you're right It's the HHC-001, bad typo.
Well, i'm gonna change the fan anyways and get a Delta screamer ;) I'm gonna need it for my XP1700.

Thanx for that visual fish. looks like i'm not gonna have any trouble fitting it on. If anything, i have my trusty dremel ;)

Thanx again guyz :D
