I got a partion for storage so speed doesnt matter but when i format under xp it tells me what allocation unit size i want i assume that 512 bytes will store more efficient than 4000

I would have to agree with using the 512... that is rather strange though. I've have formatted hd's through xp and i've never seen that option before. Unless it was there and I didnt notice it. I usually format my hd's through dos/win98se startup.
