CS ping help needed

Post by wally »

I hav had cable for about 5 months now and when i first got it i would play counter-strike and always hav a low ping 90 and under. however recently i hav had pings on local servers reaching 200 on average. Now my ping is always above 100. I have looked over ur site but im lost as to what to do to fix things. However, my download speed is excelent, 300kb/s but that doesnt seem to help CS any. Oh yeah,my friend on my street got dsl and when he first got it it was on one computer and my connection was still good. however when he got another computer in his house hooked up to the same dsl line i noticed my ping wasnt as good n e more after a couple of days. is it my friend that is slowing me down? PLZ help im so lost!!!

P.S. im running win xp pro

Question.

What does your friend down the street getting DSL have to do with your ping?
i'm going to become rich and famous after i invent a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet

Have your pings changed with other gaming sites?

Have you tweaked using any patches from this site. There is a patch for Win 98se that is on this site that I have had a similar problem with. I had to re-install the original file from my win 98 disk.

If you need anymore help e-mail me at

Hey Wally I am having the same difficulties. I have noticed my pings increase in the last month. I live in the northern section of middle Tennessee. I am using Excite@Home. My DLs are good but my pings are crap. It doesnt matter if the server is in Nashville my pings will exceed 100 ms. Even during off peak hours like now 1:00 am on a Sunday night. It must be an @Home problem.
With SPEED like mine who needs friends!?!?!
