Ras ?

Post by YeOldeStonecat »

NT 4 Domain, 1x PDC, 2x Apps servers, 1x mail server. One of the smaller Apps servers has a 2nd NIC in it for VPN, and RRAS installed. Is it possible/smart for RRAS to run on one computer, and pop a modem on another computer to kick of RAS on to answer the modem? Or can RAS/RRAS only be installed on one computer in a domain?

The only RAS experience I have is having a external modem connected to the PDC w/ RAS services running for the domain.

I do not know if the scenario your mentioned would work,
it may be worth a try.
Good luck.

RAS cannot control/command modems remotely as you would a printer, or network drive. Whichever PC has the modem is where you would configure the RAS applet to accept incoming connections. You could, however, set up RAS to assign client IP's via any DHCP server instead of assigning a static scope. Hope this helps.
