Please Maximize My EVDO Internet Connection

Post by beatforex »

Hi, I live in Indonesia.
I have an EVDO internet connection.
My ISP Smart Jump, it promise 3,2 MBps for Donload and 384 kbps for Upload.
But if I download a file with my default browser downloader (such as Firefox) it will limit the

download speed to only 30 KBps. But if I use IDM then it can reach 3,2 MBps.

I want my browser speed and download to be 3,2 MBps as like as it promise to me. Especially when

I try to watch youtube online, it can't give me a good speed. Can anyone help me?

This is my current settings now, I use Windows XP Home Edition SP3 :

First, you need to understand the difference between bits and bytes. Search Google and read this up.

Second, when you use Cablenut with XP, you MUST NOT put any value in the field 'DefaultReceiveWindow' as this will override value entered for TCP Window - see 131072 that you have entered.

Is this right? CMIIW...

1 Kilobyte (KB/s) = 8 kilobit (kb/s)
1 Megabyte (MB/s) = 1,000 kilobit (kb/s)

So your speed package from your ISP is 3.2 mbps (megabits per second) or 400 KB/s (Kilobytes per second).

File download speed shown in the browser is measured in kilobytes/second!

When I download a file without IDM, it just max speed at 30 Kilobyte (KB/s) alias 240 kilobit (kb/s).
But if I use IDM to download the same file I can reach max 400 Kilobyte (KB/s) alias 3,200 kilobit (kb/s).

Set TCP Window to 256960.

What browser are you using? Have you scan for malware? They may be linked to your browser.

Thank you...I will try it...
but now my Firefox can reach 70-80 Kilobyte (KB/s).
But still not the same as IDM did.

Note that a browser downloads by a single direct connection to the server. How fast you can download will also depend on how fast that server can send to you.

IDM tries to find multiple servers sending the same file and download from them at the same time, thus total download speed can be higher than the browser.
