nexland isb pro 800

Post by XxXVeNoMXxX »

I recently found out from the tech support for Hotbrick that their dual wan router the vpn 800/2 is identicle to the pro 800. The one difference being the serial port is not present on the hotbrick model. Now I personally kind of feel hosed on the pro 800 as semantec acquired nexland just months after I bought the pro. Anyone else who owned one knows what the outcome of the acquisition was nexland was basically forgotten. What I am wondering is if these two devices are essentially the same is there a way to install the hotbrick firmware to the pro 800 as it looks like a much better firmware. Any help on this would be appreciated

Nexland!

I had the ISB SOHO, once symantec took over support went dead. EVIL SYMANTEC!

I think Hotbrick's firmware is larger than the nexland can take, not sure though.

Nothing devloped in a long long loooong time...sort of dissolved. Way back in the early days of broadband I loved the Nexland routers also...even had and setup a few of the dual WAN port models after Symantec picked the up...the 200R models I think they were called. Discontinued and support dropped a loooong time ago. They were great performing units back then....but very primitive by todays standards...get something a bit more current.

Thats why I was asking about firmware Stonecat. The pro 800 has been around for a long time I agree but it is still being manufactured just under a different name. Here is the message I sent to hotbrick and the response I recieved from their tech support.

msg I sent:
I have been looking into your product for some time and it is vaguely reminiscent of the Nexland ISB pro 800 turbo which I happened to have purchased a few months prior to the semantec acquisition. I have read somewhere that some of the Nexland people migrated over to Hotbrick and what I am wondering is are the two products similar? Semantec basically killed all support for the nexland products and that I found very disapointing as I am sure the pro 800 has a lot more potential if only new firmware was being developed. I was also wondering if the pro 800 might have some of the same capabilities as the HB-VPN800/2 especially in the QOS or bandwidth management departments. Sorry if I am way off base with this inquiry, I have been wondering about these things for some time. Thank you for your time.

response from hotbrick tech support:
Hello Sir,
Thank you for contacting HotBrick. Recently I did a breif research regarding the Nexland ISB Pro 800 Turbo and I was able to find out that the only difference between the HotBrick VPN 800/2 and this item is that the Nexland product has a Serial Console port, on which you can have access to the config console port, this port is not available on the HotBrick, since the unit is fully configurable through the Web GUI. Aside of this, the QoS offered on the HotBrick is based on stage such as High and Low rather than Bandwidth management.

If you need further information regarding to this, please feel free to take a look to the link below or re-open this case.
