Raptor grinding...
Typical hard drive noise, but it's getting more pronounced. The Raptor used to be quiet, very little noise while working, but every time it does now, it's the loud grinding we've all heard. This thing dying or what?
I doubt it.. unfortunately.. that is a characteristic of modern drives.. they get louder as they age. I doubt you have has one long enough to notice thus far but it happens. All my bosses raptors started to get loud after a few months .. they reach a point though and stay the same...
Nothing to worry about..

Not really worried, it's just that my Maxtor 7200 RPM SATA is virtually inaudible, even under heavy read/write load. Just opening a program causes the Raptor to grind loudly. It's getting irritating.

Burke, does that case you have it in have it mounted on rubber gromets?
I'm going on 2 years with my Raptor...still as nice sounding as day one, really only hear it on those rare times I'm powering up from a cold start.
Power Management set to never turn it off, right?

If it was originally quiet, and now it's not, seems like it is wearing prematurely to me. Or at least it's not performing as it was. 5 year warranty, RMA it.
you think that's bad you should try having 2 - 15k cheetahs 2 feet from your ears...they are fast but at a price of noise.Burke wrote:Not really worried, it's just that my Maxtor 7200 RPM SATA is virtually inaudible, even under heavy read/write load. My raptors make the same noise now as they did when I got them. The sound shouldnt change cuz it it does then something with the drives have changed.
