How to clean out cdrom/dvd rom

Hey guys,

Whats the best method to do this? Phyiscally open up the drive and air spray her clean? Or just get one of those cd rom cleaning disks? Or what? My dvd drive has slowly been degrading in its performance.

Unless you have a very steady hand...the best way for a novice to clean one is simply to get a lens cleaner.

There are other options but for the most part, these work fair to middlin.....

Do you smoke? Lots of dust?

No smoking, just gotten lots of use out of the drive, getting on in its age aswell. Performance is not terrible or anything just get the odd blip while streaming movies such as divx from the drive.

A lens cleaner isn't very expensive and will more than likely fix your problem. They are really a pretty good investment.
