I got the Z-560's for christmas and it appears that after about an hour of good loud music the subwoofer died and has yet to come back on... I have it under my desk with nothing around it... the thermostat in my house is kept at 72 and the room is nice and cool w/ plenty of ventilation around it.
My wife doesn't seem to have the receipt so hopefully Best Buy will do an even exchange. I can't believe this POS subwoofer is already dead after 3 days of use! The Harmon Kardon speaker/sub that came with my Dell handles loud volumes much better!
Anyone know of a fix or anything before I try and exchange these things?... I'm so mad at logitech right now.... I have the worst luck with their products... never owned a logitech product that didn't give me trouble,, including their crappy keyboards and wireless mice that need new batteries every other week. I guess I'm gonna have to get some Klipsch ProMedia 4.1's in order to be truly satisfied.

dunno about ur store, but mine would do it--do it soon tho--before the christmas return policy ends..also if u paid by check or credit, they can look it up.
I'm gonna exchange 'em today before I go to work.. I just hope I just got a bad subwoofer. I need something that can sustain high volumes for at least 4 hours... I have a big New Years party to throw and these speakers are gonna have to play a big role in keeping it loud. My friend has the Klipsch ProMedia 4.1's and when I'm over there we work with audio pro tools and always keep it loud for a few hours and they never give him problems.
Anyone use the Z-560's for long durations @ high volume and NOT have them shutoff!? No good exchanging them if the next set is just gonna do the same..

Ratz! That sux! Sorry about your new sub dying out. I've read in other forums that those subs die out pretty sudden. Must be a defect of some kind. Hopefully you'll be able to swap it. Maybe take the whole set in with the box and they can prolly scan the barcode and help you out.
I got a set of labtecs Pulse 424's. 2 satellites and a sub woofer used from a friend and i crank these babies with no problems.
What a lot of people don't realize, is that you can't hear when a sub is clipping in a bandpass enclosure like that. They just keep banging away on the woofer for hours on end distorting the hell out of it, at that point it heats up and burns out the voice coil.
Those woofers take a beating inside of those boxes, try turning down the bass gain on the next one just a hair.
Sliding down the banister of life ..........................
i use to crank my z-560's up very loudly when i lived in a house, id crank em up with bass, for hours...
they still work fine for me
the sub has a fuse in it, check it, replace it if blown, make sure you use the right one though, i have heard of people replacing it with not the right one and it kept blowing over and over again, heh

well, I exchanged them and took 'em home and dropped in my living room and ran out the door late for work.. When I get home tonight I'll set it all up and we'll see how it goes.
I had the bass volume down fairly low so it really shouldn't have been distorting or anything. I didn't realize there was a fuse on the back.. just the speaker plug-ins, on/off switch, control console plug-in and that was all I saw.. Do I have to open it up somehow to check?
I'm glad to hear they work for you Brent.. I know you make music too, so I really hope these things can hold up through 3 or 4 hour music sessions as they have for you.
If they don't last through next week.. I'm returning them for good and upgrading to the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1's.. cuz my BestBuy doesn't stock the 4.1's anymore.. matter of fact, the guy at BestBuy told me the 4.1's aren't made anymore... Is this true Amro?

cool thanx Brent... I'll open that beeotch up if necessary... But whos to say that if I replace the fuse (if the new one blows) the next one won't blow just the same?

Well, before you consider the Klipsch, you will definitely want to check out the forums on their website. A lot of unhappy people with bad subs, both 4.1 and 5.1.
I have to send mine back soon to get fixed, only 18 months old, and I have had the problem for as long as I can remember(my memory varies from day to day). I wish I had sent them back under warranty, always thought it was crappy sound card or something, couldn't be the $300 set of speakers
When they work, they sound awesome.. when they dont, they don't.
I have a good friend who is really big into audio work and he runs the 4.1's (has been since they came out) for hours on end at very high volumes and he has never had a problem,.. matter of fact, his subwoofer takes 5x longer to get hot than my Z-560's did.. hopefully that just means I got one with a bad amp or something and that these new ones will do okay.. but we'll just have to wait and see..
I might end up ordering a whole separate professional amp and studio monitors if I can't find a decent solution in the lower price range bracket.

Have you ever had a look at the vinyl for the cannon shots? Pretty humorous.
I would not suggest the 1812 for low end sub woofers.

yeah, yeah, yeah..
I'm well aware of the klipsch's capabilities.. really wish I got those instead of the Z-560's but this was a X-mas present from the wife so I had to settle for something a little more budget conscious..
If this other sub gives me problems its going back right away for a return and I'll pick up the 5.1's without hesitation..
But as long as these things hold up like they are, I have no problem in keeping them.. They are indeed fairly loud..

My Z-560's have been TORTURE TESTED to the point where I got a noise complaint from a neighbor (I live in an apartment) and I havent had a problem. You may have just over-done it with one of those D.J. Magic Mike CD's (wait... that would be me!).
Hopefully the new set will last longer. Mine have been around for almost 6 months.

I haven't really cranked the bass up, but I did have the overall volume up good 'n loud for about 3 hours today.. I noticed the sub is running much cooler than the other one, so I really think it may have been a bad apple..
Due to the number of family gatherings & driving trips this month, I haven't had time to test it as far as prolonged music production goes, but I did play around on the drum machine which is ran through a Mackie 1402-VLZ mixer for about 30 minutes and I played a few records earlier this morning and all sounded good so far..

LOL
Actually I used to bust out Magic Mike & the Royal Posse back in like '90/91 or so (on cassette).. It was all that old school like Magic Mike (along with several other genres) over the years that brings me to own drum machines and turntables today.. just wish there were more than 24 hours in a day and that humans didn't need sleep to live a productive, healthy life..

ahhh... thats better!
I wonder what my neighbors are gonna think when they here: DRRRROOOP!!!!
