If it is anywhere it would be an option in the LAN setup. Is there anymore pages that are available within that area? If not I really don't know. Try contacting your ISP to see how to port forward on their modem.

This may sound stupid but do you have a ftp server running on your box? If not then the ports would not be listening and would show as closed.

It sounds like all you have to do is unplug the power to the modem for a couple minutes then power it back on. This will force the modem to re-register the mac address of your computer back to the ISP and it then should work.

I don't know about the Netgears but on the Linksys there is a button on the unit that you push and hold to reset the unit to all of it's defaults. The model that you list as having is just a cablemodem, NOT a wireless router. Is there another device connected to that modem? If not then she does not have a wireless network.

Possibly what you may be seeing in your wireless networks is a neighbors network.

If you are using a hub it will not work if your ISP gives you just 1 IP address like Comcast does. What you need is a router instead of the hub.

If you have already tried different cables then it seems that your nic card is the problem. That ip address 169.x.x.x is the ip a system shows when it doesn't grab an ip from a dhcp server or it isn't manually configured.

Make sure that you have the right driver for that nic card or try another one.

Try running Spybot S&D and Ad-aware. It looks like it isn't truly a virus but actually spyware or malware.
