I would include that other things can cause your internet to be slow or cause latency. Possible bad wires, modem, router, spyware/malware/virus, can and will cause issues with your internet speed. These things should be ruled out before trying to tweak your settings.

I have cable internet, and I ...

Could be several things causing speed and latency issues. Tweaking probably wont fix the problem.

Try a speed test with the modem directly connected to your computer. Easiest way to tell if it's the router.

If that did not fix it, here is some other causes.

1. Bad modem
2. Bad cable or wires

Could be a router setting causing the issue. I'm not familiar with DD-WRT settings. Try finding a long ethernet cord to rule out the router, or if you have an another router without DD-WRT firmware, try it.

Cordless phones with less than 6.0Ghz signal can cause wireless issues also.

Tweaking your settings wont really help.

You have a 1Mbps down connection. 1Mbps = 1,000,000 bits of data every second. So you will download at 125KB/s = 125,000 bytes of data per second.

So if you get 180KB/s then you are better than the connection promised.

Downloading files through a browser ...

You wont be able to tweak any settings to get a faster connection. Your connection speed is controlled by your ISP.

Your current speed is not bad, but it's not really that great for fast action shooting games.

There is several factors that can contribute to latency in games and a slow connection ...

The 1st thing I try when my internet speed decreases is unplug my modem and router for around 2-5 minutes so it can start up fresh. Also restart your computer. Check your speed and see if it improved any.

You can also directly connect your modem to your computer and check your speed. Sometimes ...

Night time internet speed issue

Hi all, recently signed up.

I'm having an issue at night with my cable internet.

My ISP is Metrocast located in Virginia. Advertised speeds are 15 Mbps Down, 1 Mbps UP. I have a Motorola SB6121 Docsis 3.0 Modem and a Belkin Router.

During the day the speed are great, 17 Mbps Down, 1.5 Mbps UP. So ...
