Linksys WPC11 install problem
Installing WPC11 PC card in Dell 8000 lap top, connecting to Linksys BEFW11S4. Card works OK to LAN (I can access other PCs) but attempting to open AOL connection gives TCP/IP connection error, and IE6.0 gives Page Cannot be Displayed (Cannot find server or DNS error). Other PCs can access internet ...

 I still would like to understand why one would want or need to set up an FTP server for your own small LAN when File & Print Sharing already gives you all the flexibility you would seem to need. I use it for the 3 (4 counting when I hook up my laptop) on my LAN to run applications and ...

First thing you might want to do is upgrade your Linksys router firmware to the latest version and see if that helps http://www.linksys.com

I don't know anything about setting up FTP servers, but in response to your request for "good" FTP programs, I have used LeechFTP and never had any problems. Its a bit long in the tooth (i.e., old) and there apparently is a successor under development that will have all its attributes. This site ...

PMTUDiscovery
I have carefully edited the appropriate registry entry to change PMTU from zero to 1, rebooted, and the Registry entry now shows 1 for the value, but when I run the TCP Analyzer here, and a tweaks reporter on another site, it reports the MTU Discovery = OFF. Anyone have an explanation?

First, if you are happy running your LAN using ICS to get on the Internet, don't change anything. The reason most folks don't do it the ICS way is everything has to go through the main (host) PC, which must be on. It's also usually a bit slower connection.

If AT&T's @homeis like AT&T's Roadrunner, it uses the modem MAC to address the modem, but the data stream is addressed to the NIC MAC, or if you have a router, to its MAC. The will store up to 3 MAC addresses and for an extra ($10/month in So. CA) will let you hook up 3 PCs through a hub and they ...

I use at Linksys BEFSR11 (with hub) and AT&T Roadrunner and have never had any problem. Only setup needed was to check Obtain Address Automatically, and was in business. Sounds like your router is having to re-establish the modem connection every time that you sign on. By the way, the Linksys WAN ...

Actually, you always had only one IP (internet provider), but were allowed to register two MAC addresses. (A MAC is the unique address that each network interface card [NIC] has built into it, and it is how the IP knows where to send things to you.) If you get a router/switch, it will have its own ...

Something is not right. When you enter the new WAN MAC address in the Router, THAT becomes its address, so I don't quite understand why it would not connect using the MAC of your NIC just the same as your PC did with the cable modem directly connected to the NIC. If the connection worked OK before ...

What is the purpose of the "time stamp"? I see most folks seem to have it disabled. If I don't need it, how do I do that?
Thanks
