I cd to the correct directory, count the number of files, and write this out to a file:

dir "*.net" |find "File(s)" > C:\test\LicCount.txt

this writes out in the format '1 File(s) 0 bytes'

then I parse out the number, and write out date, time, number:

Thanks Norm,

I'm aware of the ability to concatenate multiple variables onto a single line of output.

What I can't figure out how to do is to set a variable to anything other than a literal string, or an evaluated mathematical expression.

Again, I want to set a variable equal to the number of ...

I've got a quick EAC question. I'm setting up EAC (with LAME), which I haven't done in a long time, and the one thing that I can't figure out is how to configure it to name my files the way that I want it to.

in EAC/Compression options/ ID3 Tag I've selected "Additionnally write ID3 V2 tags, using ...

how do I find if service is available w/out phone number? (more info...)

Here's my situation: I'm thinking of moving to a new area. My wife tellecommutes full time, so we need to have high speed internet access. The service providers that I've called (been on the phone, mostly on hold, for over two hours this morning) want a phone number - which I don't have.

I'm running WinXP, and need to ping some of the local services on my computer - specifically, SQL Server. Is there a ping command that allows me to ping services that are running locally? Can this be done for any service that appears in the "Services" mmc?

looks like a major PITA to remove that panel - it goes from the corner of the trunk area all the way up to the door.
