Enable MSN messenger inside network?
My problem is that I want to enable the use of MSN messenger file tranfering, video conferencing and all this stuff inside my network, so I wanted to know what ports I need to open to be able to use this! I've seen that microsoft posted some Info on this but I wanted to know If someone has had an experience with this!
I have a Linksys DI-707 and an Alcatel Speedtouch Pro connected to it!
Any help will be apreciated!

What microsoft writes is accurate. The limitations of MSN Messenger without UPnP is accurate.
BTW are you sure you have a Linksys and NOT a D-Link?
Also, I was under the impression that the Alcatel was a DSL modem+router w/NAT, PAT, etc. The D-Link DI-707 is a router as well. Why would you have 2 routers?

Yes your right.
I use the alcatel and the D-link DI-707 together because my ISP doesnt have a direct PPPOE connection to my house so I just use the Alcatel to Bridge the connection between my ISP and the D-link DI-707 as PPPOE.
Im surprised that with your supposed knowledge, you never seen such a configuration!

Which OS? WinXP's Messenger is very NAT compliant, works without any router config (at least on Linksys's routers with UPnP firmware)
Win2K's, I've only gotten working if you DMZ the box, which I don't like.
There's also this software which supposedly makes earlier Messenger versions NAT compliant...I've yet to get this software to work.

Hey YOSC,
Im having some issues with my XP Messenger and my new Linksys BEFSX41 (I finally bought one...). You mentioned something about UPnP. Can you give me the low down on how to set this up?
If its easier for you, you can get in touch with me on MSN, Yahoo, or AIM at "CrazyJW1971" or "Jaydubb71". Of course if you wanna get me on MSN, just put "@hotmail.com" behind the names. One or the other (Screen names) is always on.
Thanks!
P.S. If anyone else can help me, feel free to IM me.
Thanks again!

Latest firmware on the router, even anything in the past 6 months or more works.
Latest MSN Messanger, 4.7.0105 was the last update I know of.
No configuration needed on the router, no DMZ, no port forwarding, nothing needed
Client on a dynamic IP is fine, don't need static IP either.
XP's latest Messenger is very NAT friendly and the UPnP automatically works. I just did it this morning again for someone. Voice works fine.

Digitaljedi, for your info, the Alcatel Speed Touch Pro is a bridge, not a router.
