IRQ Sharing

Post by joecool169 »

I've been in the mood to tweak the past few days, My connection is already slightly above my cap, BUT I figure if it ain't broke play with it till it is :D

So anyhow I was gonna use the NIC Buffer tweak, I went to get the IRQ for my NIC and found 8 devices using IRQ 11 including my Video card and both NIC's

So should I try to do anything bout that or just apply the tweak and let all the cards share the RAM buffer, or just leave well enough alone

I'm on RR with XP Pro AMD XP 1600+ and 256 MB RAM, I know I need more RAM :(

You can try putting the NIC in a different slot to see if the IRQ changes.

I don't know XP but Win2000 share same IRQ due to ACPI.
If you change and PUT NIC in differents slots, the results are the same, you have again IRQ sharing.
The solution is set your computer to "standard PC" in control panel/computer (I think is here in US WIndows, mine is french :) ).
And after the reboot, you can affect manually IRQ.
Disavantage : ACPI is deactived so your PC don't shutdown auto, ... (you must shut by pressing on/off).
Sorry, my English sucks :-)

Can I change to "Standard PC"; re-assign IRQs, and then change back to "ACPI PC"?
