Intel PRO/1000 T VS. 3COM 3CR990-TX-97

Post by nrezaie »

Intel PRO/1000 T Desktop Adapter or the 3COM 3CR990-TX-97 Secure NIC.

I am deciding between these NICs. Can anyone give a comment or recommendation. I see that alot of people are preferring Intel NICs more often. This Intel one is 10/100/1000 over copper. I will be using Windows XP Professional or maybe Home Edition and I am looking for the NIC that has the lowest CPU utilization as well as extreme/excellent hardware/driver stability and compatibility. Also, I want which ever NIC has the more solid performance and connection reliability. Also I WANT to spend money.

Both are apparenlty very good. I have read about 3coms utilization rates with 3XP processor, but I am concerned about driver compatibility and stability with Windows XP.

Let's act like money is not an issue, so please do not tell me NICs don't matter and to just get a Linksys and that I won't know the difference. I hate Linksys products. I will not listen to suggestions outside of Intel or 3COM.

I am the type of person that has to have the best for my PC. I buy things I don't necessarily need just because it feels cool to have it.

i wont recommend linksys but Netgear or onboard nics seem to be just as good.
