Hardware Firewall Solution for small business !!!

Post by setiawan »

The company I worked for wants me to research a hardware firewall solution. We need a firewall that will allow us publish our exchange server, webserver in dmz, and allow 50-100 VPN client connection, and provide internet connection to multiple subnet via Nat . I also need something that is somewhat easy to configure. I cannot take the network off for too long to implement it. Our field client is very dependent with the service provider by the server. I was looking at cisco 515 or sonicwall pro series........ maybe anybody have any better ides on what hardware will be the best solution?!?

Sonic Wall Pro 300 is the one for you, IMHO. Includes 50 VPN access licences, as well as Viewpoint monitoring software package. This unit will support up to 1000 VPN tunnels. The Pro 100 is too small, as it will only support 50 VPN max., and the Pro200 actually costs more than the 300 when you price in optional VPN licenses.

I maintain a couple of Pro-VX's, which are the same as the Pro300, and these things are awesome. Greatest solution is when you maych up the end user with a soho model at their home end. Seamless, always on VPN. Their new VPN client software for non hardware-to-hardware vpn is a great improvement over the prior release too.

Slickest thing out there though, for the home office user connecting to a SonicWall corporate network, is the new TELE3-TZ. This is a SPI, ISA certified firewall for the home office client; NAT router; etc, but splits the home network into 2 distinct "zones", to allow other family members to continue to share the broadband connection, but NOT access the corporate network. Only the PC connected to the "Work Port" is connected via VPN. Exciting stuff.
